? on Hoover Model 66

Was this model really green? I saw the pic of the day from a few days / weeks ago and that image was green, but I assumed that was just the advertisement which was a drawing. I have never seen an early model, green convertible, but didn't think to ask this till I saw one on ebay that isn't clear but kinda looks green. For some reason, I thought they were all pink until the 67 or 68 that was blue, of course other than than the gold, model 65 for the 50th year.

Yes it is green. It is called Garland Green according to Jeff Parker's Convertible list.

67 .. 68 ... where do they end?

I didn't realise there was anything after 65. I thought things then went into the Uxxxx numbering system after that. Does anybody have pictures of the 67 and 68 machines Chris mentions?

Even better, does Jeff's list have pictures and could we see? It would be fascinating to see a chronological listing of cleaners, with pictures, from however far back we can go until production ceased entirely.

Wow. I have seen Fred's display before, but didn't notice until now that it is not only color, but model coordinated. And I can see the answer to the question that I asked. The early green (66) in between two pink models before the blue era. The 28 and 29 along with the early 60 models, 1060, 1070, on the other side. What a tribute to this company that now exists in name only. Chris

Model 66 Convertible

Yes.....indeed.....The Model 66 Convertible was Garland Green made from 1958 until sometime late in 1960 from what I recall. This is the vacuum that I grew up with in addition to an Electrolux model LX ! I clearly recall my folks purchasing it at a local furniture store in Pennsylvania , on a rainy Saturday in March of 1959 ! The Premier upright they had since 1948 had finally died and my Mom was wanting one of those "new" Hoovers. I still remember the way it smelled from the box as my Dad assembled it ! It was that wonderful "new plastic" smell ! Talk about a good memory for trivial things! Beautiful vacuum and still one of my favorites!

Model 66 Convertible

That Hoover Convertible was still going strong in the early eighties when my folks sold the house that we grew up in. In fact, I know the woman that still has it now, in Pennsylvania. Sold at a huge garage sale that my folks had when they moved to Vegas. If I had only been collecting then, there would be many things that I would still have. My Folks had the house built in 1952 and it was full of great 1950's appliances that we grew up with and that I remember so fondly. I do have a model 66 Convertible in my collection now that is actually a combined unit from the best parts of two machines...I love it and we use it at least twice a week. It brings back great memories. I can still see Mom in her capri pants and ballerina flats, running that vacuum over the wall to wall carpeting, with the bag inflated and the headlight glowing softly........My mind is scary !

My Folks actually bought the model 66 Hoover Convertible At Faller's Furniture Store in Monroeville, Pa........Didn't realize you were in Pittsburgh ! That will be fifty years ago this March ! Wow....How time flies!

Wow, small world. I grew up in Churchill and I remember Faller's well. My parents bought their Hoover Convertible at Community Electric in Wilkinsburg.

Can't believe that you are from Churchill ! It surely is a small world.....Where did you live there??? I do remember Community Electric in Wilkinsburg....Used to pass it on Penn Avenue as we drove through that little town. Faller's was a nice furniture store and they also had locations in Wilkinsburg and also in Turtle Creek. I still remember the Hoover display there the day my folks bought the model 66. They had a few Constellations on Display as well as both models 65 & 66. Mom said "OH.....I'd like to have the green one" We always refered to it as the "Green Hoover" In fact the neighbor next door saw it and liked it so well that she went and bought one also ! What model Convertible did your folks have???
We lived off of James Street in Monroeville near Hohmann's market. It was a great time and a great place to grow up in the 1950's & 1960's !
