But it's got some issues like a broken handle release and the bristles are worn. As it performs poorly because of its issues, it sits in a corner collecting dust.

Looks really rough. I'm in the US but picked one up sans headlight cover for $6 like two weeks ago. Parts are limited in the US, I'd guess next to impossible in the UK. Decent vac but it's not a Thunder.

Oh I wouldn't say they're that uncommon. Around here you find them all the time, aside from two SE Furys last summer that were well overpriced, I buy pretty much all that I find, I've gotta have more than a dozen Furys at the moment. Even the most uncommon Fantom products were made in droves. When Service Merchandise was closing they had a whole section of the store walled off with them, double deep two high. We had stacks of Wildcats when I worked at Wal-Mart in college. I used to order so many Furys I'd out the warehouse and we used to do vac demos on Saturdays and we'd sell them all week in and week out.

The Fantom Fury motor is the same size and power as a DC03 Dyson. A DC01 has tons more suction than the Fury. It goes without saying that Dyson cleaners also have pre-motor filtration - something Fantom did NOT want (they were in the BUSINESS of selling HEPA filters).

I have the entire Dyson collection at the Vacuum Cleaner Museum, beginning with one of the rarest - the Cyclon 1000. My DC03 is the "clear" model. I have two DC01's - one is the Antarctica Solo model. I have three DC02's to compare with the Fantom Lightning. One of my favorites is the DC05 MotorHead or perhaps the DC04 Zorbster.

I have a Dc05 motorhead, such a well designed machine. Wish it had more suction at the head though!
