Four months ago , my model 519 Kirby had the fan replaced with a plastic one. When I use the hose, the motor now sounds like a chainsaw. Is this normal?

It sounds like you do not have a bushing on the back of your fan replacement. The bushing acts like a spacer between the fan and the back plate.

If the motor is noisy and has a clicking or grating sound...
Probable causes: (1) Defective bearing; (2) Defective fan
Remedies: (1) Replace bearing; (2) Replace fan
Thus, you may want to check the bearing, too.
