Well Tolivac, whatever thoughts you may well have regarding Vax bagless uprights, they all came from ANOTHER brand. Before TTI took over Dirt Devil U.S, that's where most of Vax's bagless uprights came from.

The Bosch merged Vax AVC, later known as VX-1 and other model names was a high end premium upright vac. As Beko rightly notes, Vax were taken over by TTI as soon as they got their hands on Dirt Devil U.S and ever since then, all bagless Vax models have been on sale worldwide as Dirt Devil or Hoover products, with cosmetic differences. The only exception has been the original Vax canister, also sold in the U.S under the Dirt Devil Wizzard.

Its a pity TTI don't go far enough to rebrand the bagged uprights though, much to my annoyance.

Bissell and Samsung also have a merger going on; most of their bagless uprights are also made from Samsung parts.

Thats true re bissel and samsung. I had a samsung su3350 recently whick I refurbed to sell, and at the same time one of my neighbors asked me to look at their bissel cleanview upright. Basically the same machine, with just a few cosmetic differences.

@turbomaster

1st off, please accept my condolences on the loss of your Grandfather.

Please explain where I said all ready made foods were a bad thing ?. Also I wasn't talking about ready meals, I was referring to such things as ready made Mash, Gravy / stock / sauces ready made in a tub. Ready peeled potatoes or ready peeled / sliced / diced & par boiled vegetables. Because all of these things are so difficult to do & take so much time out of peoples "excessively busy" lives. But if you take the time to look, a large amount of the people buying them don't have busy lives. They're like the people that can't be bothered to empty the bags on their cleaners, too bloody lazy to do it.

A friend of my youngest daughter came to Sunday lunch a few weeks back & was shocked to see a whole chicken brought out of the oven, she'd never seen 1 before. They have chicken etc but it comes from a bag in pieces.

lol @ Vintagerepairer

We all like being lazy at times & I've used ready meals myself in the past, for example taking one to work for lunch. We only had a Microwave to cook with so they came in handy.

Tech12 I made no mention of ready meals although some of these are very good and no blame can be given to anyone who uses them at times.
I was also refering to the things like gravy, mash and vegetables you refer to, and as for the ready mad stock - fair old contradiction there given what stocks are used for id say.....

I have a large figure so if you saw me buying them like I did do I assume you have an opinion of me being the lazy sort?

p.s I spent 10 years working in the same supermarket as a fresh food stock control clerk where I spent most of my time ordering stock and I can tell you that your opinions are totally wrong.

All kinds of people buy these products and as I have mentioned they suit alot of people for different reasons.

@turbomaster

When you mentioned buying for your grandfather who was ill at the time, I thought you were talking about ready meals.

You have my humble apologies for making a terrible mistake by misinterpreting what you were saying.

As for your "as you put it" large figure, who else other than you gives a damn ?.

I certainly don't & I doubt anyone else on here does either.

As for my Opinion being totally wrong & obviously not as valid as yours, because you used to work in a Supermarket. Well as they say, that's your opinion isn't it ?.

No more or less valid than my opinion or that of anyone else.

Now as they also say: I think that's all she wrote, the thread is being taken well off topic.

Sorry to bring this back on track...

but its AMAZING! Easily the best upright I've used in a while, I thought the Hoover Vortex (original one) was a good clean fan vac, this blows that away!

The seller was alright tbh, certainly not a 'ready meal' sort of person, more a 'go out most nights' kind of chap. He's lived in his current house with his missus for a month, and bought a new vac a few weeks ago, and was going to tip this if I didnt buy it!

Sadly he did replace it witha Vax MAch Air, to which I told him to keep a good eye on the filters and it should last a while.

Then I drove to collect another vacuum, which wasnt in as good condition but interesting enough (it's a Sanyo Anna, whatever one of those is). However, the Sanyo did come with 5 new bags (1 fitted), so I came home, changed the bag in the icon, and had a very good play with it! The bag wasnt full, he could have got a few more weeks out of it! He also had a very amazing 6 24" screen setup in his office!

Even on the min setting, because the brushroll spins at the same speed it performs well, perfect for cleaning up after a late night spa session dismantling!

I love my Icon, apart from the colour. Would have liked the black and silver version, but glad to have any Icon as it's a joy to use and very effective.

I have one still unused in the box, but it needs a bit of repair to the soleplate. The one I have demonstrated on Youtube also had a broken soleplate, but the super glue is still holding.
The direct drive agitator is one of the best I have seen on an upright and spins at a slower speed which is supposed to protect the carpet and improve the pick up.

The Icon is one vac I will hold on to and I'm sure you will too Sam.

Yes, this is a keeper for sure! Need to find a new post motor filter for it though.

The hose is a bit bent too at the top, will see if it can be squeezed out

Your video didnt help the urge to want one roger, but now I can tick this one off the list!

I was looking for a post motor filter myself, but all the sites I tried were showing it as obsolete. It's supposed to last the lifetime of the cleaner, but I don't think it's washable.

I'd just run it without the exhaust filter to be honest, the filtration would be slightly impeded but it wouldn't bother me.

My Electrolux Tango hasn't had an exhaust filter fitted for a couple of months now although I will get around to buying some cut-to-size material soon to replace it.

Ive removed it for now, it does seem happier without it! Not worried about filtration either! Its only filthy cos the old bag wasnt properly fitted/fell off with weight.

Weve just finished having a major tidy up upstairs, having a quick rolly then gonna run it round on low!

That Panasonic is certainly striking and I do actually like the colour, shame it is so ugly! Still very cool looking and high performing I expect.

I am surprised you thought the Vortex was a good upright, Sam, I love it very much, it is certainly higher performing than the DC01 of the time but it is not really good I don't think. A Turbopower 2 is a much better cleaner at cleaning or better still the Turbopower 1. The Vortex is not the greatest carpet cleaner Hoover produced, in my opinion, but it is definitely an icon, (no pun intended).

I dunno, I always found my vortex (the original, banned one) to pull from deep down, always felt like it was cleaning really well, and always pulled loads of crap up even on a clean carpet. Sort of like a tp1 with suction...

But Im not a fan of using it as it creaks about and takes ages to clean back up again after. The icons easier as its bagged!

It is heavy though, and I worked out what the seller meant by 'loose wheel', one of the little black wheels that the machine rolls about on is a bit floppy, will investigate that!

Hehe no, ill change the bag!

Cheers, the ab+ is awaiting its turn in the shed, because it stinks! Just put my Hoover Galaxy back together after a full on refurb! Have another bitsa ab+ to refurb and sell next too!

The grooming and carpet performance of a tp1 with the suction of a clean fan, although the suction isnt all that great, but then theycdid copy the dcp1 and we all know thats not perfect in the suctiom department.

Ran the icon over the rugs again, brings them up a treat. Been using the galaxy on the laminate, now that has some good airflow!

I am sure the Vortex will not hold the carpet up like the Turbopower 1 or beat the same, the Turbopower 1 has stiffer brushes.

When comparing the Vortex to the DC01, the vortex is a better performer, bit stronger suction, and a better brushroll.

The DC01 suction isn't terrible, it doesn't have much suction at all at the cleaner head due to the silly cradle design that lets a lot of the suction escape as there is no seal around it so the suction leaks, if the suction was more powerful to start with it wouldn't be as noticeable.

From my experience though, the Turbopower 2 has better hose suction than the DC01 and is 400w less powerful!
