Yep, that's right I painted another one. I love to look for those that need a paint job.
Is it a 1964 Convertible Special 34, NOPE I already showed you that one, it is a 1964 Convertible Special 341 shipped to me all the way from Canada ( thanks Doug Smith!!!)In the back ground you can also see my painted 67 that I showed a while back. My next project is a Convertible 35 and a hood for a 65 that was missing the hood. I laser matched the paint on these.
Enjoy.

You say you color-matched the paint...did you also get it put in spray cans? I am a bit curious on how you did this. We have an old spray gun for an air compressor. I'd like to give that a try painting a few vacuums someday. Just need some help with diluting the paint!

The Hoovers look great! Keep up the good work!

Hey Kyle, I use a can of air. If you go into a paint store and look you will find a can of air with a little tube and a glass jar. You mix the paint (semi gloss metal) 4oz with 1oz. of water. There is another paint that will work that you dilute with 1 oz. of mineral spirits with 4 oz. of water. MAKE SURE you ask what one it is when you buy it before you take it home and start diluting!!! I found this out the hard way.
The brand of air sprayer that I use is Preval. I got the paint laser matched at Wal-mart. I also use the same paint on the plastic hood if I have a white replacment hood that needs to be painted, like on the 67.

Wow!

You continue to amaze me with your painting talents...they look great! Remember all those trashed convertibles we saw at the one vac shop I took you to? Guess we'll have to go back when you come back for a visit...I'm sure they'll still be there knowing the owner!

Rick

Rick, you bet I want to go there and get the rest of those trashed convertibles. We need to catch the guy at the end of the day just at the right time to get them for next to nothing. lol

Water Based Paint

How well does that water based paint hold up? My experience with it is that it tends to peel on metal and other smooth surfaces. On wood, it works well because it soaks in. I've always used an oil based paint on metal, but with all this environmental screaming about oil based paints, they are getting harder to find. New York recently banned the sale of oil based paints in quantities greater than a quart. So if you need a gallon, say for a porch floor, you need to buy 4 quarts and it costs more. You can get enamel for farm equipment in gallons still, but you can't paint everything John Deere green and yellow. Besides, it only comes in high gloss. Most convertibles have a semi gloss finish.

I have a pint of custom mixed semi gloss enamel (seal greige light)(spelling) to spray a 1020 convertible. I just need time to set it up. The paint has to be thinned with an enamel reducer. I have an air brush to apply it. I'm counting on it to hold up well. This is a project that has been on the list for a while now. Hopefully I'll find time to get to it.

Joe

Hey Joe, I don't know how well the water based paint holds up yet. I hope it will hold up for one hundred and seventy more years.
after that I will be in the nursing home and won't care what they look like. lol
