OH HOOVER EXPERTS!

I brought home from an estate sale this weekend a hoover 1070 in near mint condition, complete with attachments. The attachments themselves are standard Hoover, but I was suprised that the hose is not a tuflex hose; instead it's the same stretch hose as on a constellation. The only marking on the hose ends say it was patented in Canada in 1957. Is this a Candian attachment set? I'm happily suprised by this as this hose has more end of hose suction that the awful tuflex hose. Enquiring minds want to know! Also, what's the date of the 1070? thanks, Greg

The 1070 was the TOL Convertible from 1969-1971. Such a beautiful cleaner. First of the 4-position height adjustment lever.

Perhaps the owners had an older Convertible that originally came with that tool set... and just hung on to it when the updated with a 1070? Perhaps the dealer where they bought the cleaner had old tool sets in stock..?

By the time the 1070 was out, it should have been the tufflex hose... not Ultraflex. But the Ultraflex hoses are longer and usually much easier to work with.

Thanks for the answer, Fred! No, the hose and adapter are color matched and all parts say made in Canada. Do any of oour Canadians have any comments? I'll post picture soon-new computer and haven't use the card reader yet!

Oh, so they're a similar taupe color to the base or bumper of the machine? I misunderstood your initial posting...

That is somewhat peculiar. Perhaps the factory ran out of Tufflex hose and substituted Ultraflex as a temporary measure? Or perhaps they offered different hose options in Canada. I think, though, that a lot of my Ultraflex hoses have that same copyright marking on them (Canada) even though they were American cleaners. I'll have to dig one out and double check that.

The "Made in Canada" label on this equipment is very interesting. I also found "Made in Canada" attachments sold with Eureka vacs in American stores.

Before the North American Free Trade Agreement (late 1980's?), Hoover and Eureka and Electrolux USA were forced to sell vacs in Canada that were made at separate Canadian factories. This helped the Canadian economy and also insured that there would be bilingual English and French documentation and sales material. But I guess at some point, Hoover and Eureka realized that it was beneficial to just bring any Canadian-made attachments across the border to ship with US made machines. The Hoover plants were not far away - in Hamilton, Ontario and North Canton, Ohio. The Eureka plants had a one-day drive between them too - from Kitchener, Ontario to Bloomington, Illinois.

Look inside any Eureka bare floor brush with the attached neck made after 1975 - they all have "Made in Canada" embossed on them!
