Maybe-just maybe the person who did the IT work did the cleaning as a "getaway" from the stress of the IT job.Sometimes cleaning actually can be sort of relaxing-the act of vacuuming a floor and such. Many of the folks that I know doing the IT jobs took up other work becuase they got tired of the IT work.IT jobs can be VERY stressful! Its a job I don't want.

Sounds like you've got a good one there Benny, someone who obviously sees cleaning as a "proper" job and has built up enough of a reputation to actually create demand for their services. Word of mouth recommendations are always the best form of advertising, whatever line of business you're in.

With regard to cleaning service agencies, I used to hear similar grumbles from my own clients. Usually they cost the same, if not more, than an independent cleaner would. Biggest complaint was that they were less able to be flexible and accommodating towards the client's needs, presumably because they have to stick to a pretty rigid schedule. And people really don't like it when the agency sends a different cleaner each week.

NYCWriter, I'm wondering if the cost of living in NY may have something to do with being unable to find a good, reliable cleaner. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in such an expensive city it can't possibly pay enough to live on. I can only assume they are taking on more work than they can competently handle in an effort to make ends meet, or more likely, working at least one other job and also cleaning on the side for extra money. I guess the only safe option would be to solicit recommendations from others who are satisfied with their service provider, but if they're that good you'll likely be waiting a long time for them to fit you in.
