Numatic William

I wonder why they used the Hoover style floor tool here instead of the standard Numatic one?

That seems to be an industrial style model which still retains the personal details of the domestic line.

please correct me if i'm wrong, but in the early 90's, numatic launched their trio- green David, the new george(which replaced the very short lived Nuvac) and this william. of coure the only one which sold was George, as no one would get the david as the henry was the same but cheaper, and people thought if your going to buy a wet and dry vac like william you might as well get george which does carpet washing too! so not many are around today.

I think it is Turbo500 who has the most information. He had pictures of all different machines. The William was a 1990's version of Charles. Numatic often try altering certain factors, usually reverting to form, and this was one such case. The tried a range of cleaners with plastic 35mm tubes. They did not stick with the idea for very long. I think maybe it was to reduce costs and offer a cheaper range of cleaners. The pedal tool in the photograph here was a genric style used by a good deal of different brands in the 1990's.

Ok, here's what I've got. Info courtesy of Ryan and James.

William was originally green (this pic is black and white) and a slightly lower spec version of Charles, with plastic tubes. It didn't last very long before being replaced with Charles. Ryan is going to post some brochure scans when he can.

Watch this space.

Are they just giving new names to every cleaner?

No.

After the Wendy name was dropped, all the cleaners were named after members of the royal family - James, Henry, Charles, George, Edward, William. I think the only exceptions to the rule, to date, are Wendy, Hetty and David. Not sure where the names for those came form.

"Poor Basil has been forgotten again."

That always happens.

I'm keeping my eye out for one, would be a nice addition.

ah i was right to say that william was introuduced in the trio of george, david and william!
oh and what about the other forgotten numatics? anyone heard of Benson? nationwide? nuvac? i have pics:
