Numatic Jack

Hello, A belated Merry Christmas to you all !
I just wanted to share details of my latest Numatic. I managed to bag a Numatic "Jack" from Tesco. My other half spotted him on hot deals UK at £39.00 & that coupled with some Tesco club card double up points we had, meant we got £10.00 further off, so a new Numatic for £29.00! . He now appears to be on their site at £75.00.
He's the commercial PSP 200-11 type & has the new 620 watt motor but with single instead of twin speeds.
I tried the little guy briefly earlier today & he is superb !

Wow, that's a major bargain. Am I thinking that the Numatic Jack is the same as the Numatic James though? Only difference being the double body apron?

29 Quid ?! For a new vacuum "Jack"? Wow ! You did very well indeed.

I really like the simple crank cable rewind that Henry and most of the Numatics have. I don't know of any vac in the U.S., that has that. It seems so simple and obvious. Most cable rewinds here are spring loaded, the likes of which can cause problems.

Does Jack or James cable winder turn, or is it fixed?
I also like how the cable is protected by the sides so the cable can't come undone if bumped.

I'm getting a Filter Queen, which is about the same proportions as Henry, but I trying to think of how to add a similar cable winder.



Apparently Harry can come with an electric brush, which would be cool.

Yes, I'm certainly very pleased with him. At that price we just had to get it ! I think the James has a smaller motor besides the smaller body (could be wrong though). In Jack it's the new type 620watt one without autosave (or another speed), seems to have plenty of wallop. I have a John that has the newer motor but in its original 580w incarnation. The Jack is very like the orange Bertie that is often in B&Q.
The cable winder is fixed, you just wrap the cord around the motor bulge beneath it. I have an older grey "bucket head" type Numatic without the circular perforated plastic bit at the base of the handle & that additional part makes such a difference when winding & unwinding the cord - it's really easy, I previously hated those without a cord rewind but that transforms it.
Only bit I don't like is the floor tool, it's a Wessel type but the base plate is plastic & it doesn't glide too well, it's rather jumpy. My Numatic John has that floor tool but with a stainless steel baseplate & it's excellent.

I just checked the Numatic web-site, seems the majority now have the 620w motor including the James. The sticker on Jack is PSP 200-11 which is the same as their commercial blue one with the Nuplug easily replaced cable feature (which Jack also has).

I've never seen a Harry with an electronic powernozzle like that before, not sure where that's originated from. The models sold here don't have a socket for a powernozzle.

ha-ha-ha.  There's a Bertie Numatic.  Reminds me of "To the Manor Born".   Audrey was always calling her dog Bertie. What a fitting store to be selling an orange vac than B&Q, or here in the U.S., Home Depot.


 


I know what you mean about a plastic bottom floor brush.  It must be the constitution of the plastic compared to nearly anything metal.  Even a scratched metal plate bottom is better than trying to use something with a plastic base.  Unless there are wheels on the bottom, the plastic seems to want to bind with the surface of the carpet instead of float over it. 


 


Is the 620 watt an increase or decrease in wattage, compared to previous models?  I know there was a push to save on energy consumption on appliances, which really everyone should be doing, including us energy hogs in the U.S.  (It's not my fault)

 


The Nuplug feature, is that a removable cable?

Yes that's the removable cable. It makes it easy to replace the cable, which in a commercial environment is handy as the cable is something which fails often. Numatic have been supplying some commercial cleaners with this type of cable for over 10 years, although they have introduced to more and more cleaners as time has progressed, possibly to compete with the number of cheaper imported cleaners which have a similar type of cable and are very appealing to the large contract cleaning companies who buy 100's of new cleaners every year.

Dave - you might want to invest in the Wessel Werk RD295 floor head or Nilfisk D32 (I bought mine from Amazon UK)- it is effectively the same one that Numatic initially released with the first wave of John Lewis vacs.

Do you mean in the Humber region, or in UK in general?


 


About 3 weeks ago, CitroenBX, was looking for  receptacle for a recent Henry he found in a skip (see the link), and I believe he lives in the Midlands region.  That suggests there must be others vacs with receptacles and thus pns, wouldn't it?

That's an old model. Numatic used to make an optional powernozzle but none of the current Numatic line up have a socket for one.

By the way, I'm not in the Humber region. That's to the very East of Yorkshire. I'm in West Yorkshire. Also, we don't have the regional thing here. There's no difference between vacuums available where I live and vacuums available where Citreonbx is.

Excellent review sebo_fan, thanks very much for that. I'm going to look to get one of those floor tools, the little chap really does deserve something better than that jumpy plastic thing it came with. I do wonder why Numatic have opted to use the plastic based one. It really spoils the vacuuming experience. Luckily I know from experience with their products it's just the floor tool but others buying them might not. (My girlfriend before we started going out exchanged a Hoover because of a problem like this). I know manufacturers have to save money but it seems a silly move.
Got to say though, I really rate this little vacuum

And to you Dave. If you're having probs getting the Nilfisk one, get the Wessel Werk original if you can. I note Amazon UK are selling the larger eco version with two other cleaning tools - they are 32mm standard but the floor head is a little bit bigger, has a more substantial single pedal mechanism and was previously the original AirTeq eco head Miele fitted to their S4 Ecoline vacs. SEBO in other countries also used that floor head.
