NOS Electrolux Model L or refurbished with more features?

Hi - I'm new to this forum, but thought I may be able to get some helpful advice. Background: My parent's 1st house was built in 1960s (all hardwood and tile, with a few rugs). They had a Model G and a B8 floor polisher. I must of been an odd kid, but I actually liked to vacuum with the G - it had a quiet whoosh, the door popped when the bag needed changing, and I loved the cord winder. When I started setting up my own household in the early 90's, I went through several cheap, plastic, Eurekas, Hoovers, and even a Kenmore canister, but was always disappointed and frustrated. Finally, a few years ago, I found a gold Elux Model L that, incredibly, was still in the box never used. I've really enjoyed using this and would take it over anything I can buy in a big box store. However...

I really wish that it had the auto shut-off when the bag is full, and a built-in cord winder. I also wish it was as quiet as that old model G. I can't afford a new Aerus, but I'm tempted to trade in the L for a refurbished metal body (1205 or later) with the automatic features. Should I, or just keep the L because it's only been used a couple years and do without the auto features?

This may not be the answer you are looking for

but it really is a no brainer

From the way you write it is clear that you still like your Model L and it sounds like, reading between the lines, that you have kept it in good order. So its worth is probably far more than you would get for it on a trade in.

My suggestion would be to hold on to your model L and keep an eye out on craigslist or ebay for the model you want - take your time to get a model in good condition at a price that is right, it may require a little patience but it will crop up you can be sure.

Model L

I would advise-KEEP the L!Even after finding another Elux it could be moved to garage or upstairs.(What is current house?What are floors?)Even though newer Elux are good many feel the G was the great one.As you know there is an advantage to the cordwinder and automatic control.Remember if you find a machine only your L hose,attachments and bags will interchange with most others.(If you are in western NC you are close to my shop and warehouse with many various Elux.)

Yea, keep it bud. My mom had one when I was a kid, and I would love to find one to begin my antique Electrolux collection. Go to eBay or Craigslist and find a newer Aerus that fits your need for cheaper. I have even seen some vacuum shops selling Aerus with a warranty even though they aren't a franchise for Aerus. I think GoVacuums on Youtube was selling Aerus vacs like that.

Keep the awesome L

Hi, I am new here also. You should definately keep the model L. The way you describe it sounds like it is in wonderful condition and those old electroluxes are pretty collectible. It sounds like you would really like to have a model g in good condition. Some very nice looking model g vacuums come up on ebay every now and then. In fact there are probably some on ebay right now. There are a lot of model g electroluxes that come up on ebay that look a little rough and scratched up though. Make sure you don't get cheated. Some people will price things high. I try to make sure I read the item description carefully and look carefully at all of the pictures before I make a bid, offer, or buy it now. Good Luck! and your model L sounds pretty cool.

I am an Electrolux fan. Many model G's are available on craigslist and ebay as well as garage sales. The G is my favorite for quietness and dependability. The 1205 is a tad underpowered. The Jubilee series, Super J and anniversary editions are great machines, the Olympia not so much but the Silverado with an L shaped power nozzle redeemed the line. The later, still metal long body cleaners like the Marquis and Diamond Jubilee are all very good. Regardless of what cleaner you choose replace the original hose with an after market vinyl hose and your suction will double.

continuing dilemma for me. I rebuilt the motors on both one G and one 1205. Both sound fine, but the G out-pulls the 1205 in the postcard test. Short of buying tools/gauges to test the two, it would be nice to know that the G just has a stronger suction. Both have new LUX hoses. You're one of the first here to claim the 1205 is "underpowered". I use it as a DD, so that I can spare the G for occasional work.  I'd sure like to put this to rest once and for all......
