Norm's Finds

I wasn't the only one the vacuum gods smiled on last Saturday. Norm Brown, who accompanied me on the trip, picked up some treasures as well, and asked me to post some pics of them, which I am more than happy to do for him. So, without further ado, here we go. The first is a model 84 Constellation, along with Convertibles model 65 and 66. The 84 was the Connie that was sold alongside the Hoover 64 Citation, and the 65 and 66 were the first and second models of the Convertible--but you all knew that!

Airway 88

Norm also got a beautiful model 88 Airway, which if I'm not mistaken, was built in the late 50's or early 60's. He got a complete set of attachments with it, except for the hose and wands, and it runs as good as it looks!

Royals

Norm also picked up a beautiful model 189 Royal, complete with attachments, and a 157 Royal hand vac. He was told the 189 needs motor work, so we didn't try it, but we forgot to try the hand vac. But don't they all look beautiful together?

And Last But Certainly Not Least,

a once in a lifetime find! Norm is now the proud owner of (drum roll) a Scott & Fetzer Sanitation System!! This machine is in fine shape for it's age, and runs great! The original bag has no holes or tears, but we didn't run it long because it's in need of a sani-emptor gasket. Even included the hose! Congratulations Norm, on your awesome finds!

Wow, what excellent finds! The "Emptor Model" of the Sanitation System is quite rare!! If I'm not mistaken, it was the last machine named the "S&FSS" just before the KIRBY was introduced in 1935. There was also a line of the "S&FSS" machines called the "Keystone," which were sold in retail stores.

I believe the Scott and Fetzer dates between 1920 something-
till 1935, as Charlie pointed out ! IT also has 2 different nozzle
adjustments on it. The Front wheel setting is on the side left of the cleaner (from behind the cleaner) which is a round button
(we'll have to get a picture of this)on the axel of the front
wheels, that you pulled out and could adjust to High,med,Low.
Then the roller brush inside the head turned with the wheels.
Plus you could adjust the brush contact to the carpet on the
back of the head, just to the right of the left wheel. I'll
have look again, to tell you how much play or adjustment.
The fact that the machine had the sani-emtor, height adjust-
ment and the same Kirby on/off switch like the 500 series. Was
all much of a surprise to me. I had actually seen this machine
once before briefly and knew it was a Kirby/Scott/Fetzer machine. Had never seen one in real time before. OH Plus the fact that
the head came off to connect the hose in front of the Fan,with
NO Shaft on it ! Just flat mounted inside like the Stright suction 1920 Eurekas are that I had seen many times before.
ONe other detail, is that the female end of the cord that plugs into the machine, is a bakelite material. not sure of
the material on the male end of the cord. I'll have look when
I head down to the basement today, to do some laundry and play with my new toys !!

You're Right, Rick!

Very good times, indeed! Almost like a mini-meet! And a pleasant trip to our destination and back as well! Also, when we got back to Norm's, he showed me his new and improved displays of his collection after we unloaded his new treasures. Of course, I took pics which will be appearing in another thread here soon. Stay tuned!
