If you can tell...

the upper right corner just doesn't wanna budge. Should I just pull harder, or is there something else I'm supposed to do first? (and btw, thx so much everybody!). Oh, and as you can see the side trim by the cord is also significantly worn, so I'll probably be on the lookout for a replacement...

Nick, open the blower port and unscrew the two screws located there. Then, unscrew the screw located near the automatic control. This will take the top carying handle assembly off. You will see another screw that is holding the top portion of the cordwinder on that you are having difficulty removing. After you remove that screw it should pull out.

Thx Logan! It worked, and now the lux is drying. I just finished taking apart the power nozzles too- those were really wet, they're drying right now. The other vacs seemed to have held up ok- the Kirby on the carpet is fine- it was on a high setting so the brush roll is ok, the dial-a-matic is also fine, and the the other three on the carpet were projects anyway, but I think they'll be fine as well. And thank god the hoses were up on the wall! If all of them had been lying on the ground like before...I might be a lot unhappier! Actually, Im pretty good-just the power nozzles and lux got real wet, and other than that its just work getting the basement cleaned and all...
