OK..so what gives? do we have deep repressed ORECK issues....that take you back to a ''strange'' and ''curious''time in your youth?...please say no.

I like Orecks to, I think they are lightweight and powerful. Its perfect for my house. I have a large house with 3 floors. So it is good for carrying up and down the stairs and with the longer cord it is nice

gotta say its a great vac..comm/low pile that is.kind of a screamer tho. thought i read somewhere that tey now offered a more agressive broll.
like on the elektrapure version.

I dont see how they could possible clean well,
The fan is the size of a silver dollar,
with heavily pitched blades.

good airflow for its size/short air inlet. that and the high speed roller ,all 3 workg together produces a really good job on comm or low pile..but soft bristles keep it from being a deep cleaner...med pile shows its weekness. great on b-floors
tiny fan...but it seems to work.

Oreck Lover (not me)

But I do think they do a fair job in just using them for a quick picker-upper.. But they sure don't outclean my good ole Kirby's... Ahhh Kirby's (big smile)

I to am not an Oreck fan but like many and I have said they are good for low pile and quick pick-ups and especialy for those with back problems or (and I hate using this word for some reason) the elderly whom most want a lightweight vac.

So Alex, what vacuum(s) will you be working with??

"The fan is the size of a silver dollar"

That is just plain not true! Have you ever worked on an Oreck? If not, I encourage you to take one apart and see for yourself. The fan is alot larger than a silver dollar, and it is one of the most easily repairable cleaners made. I realize the Oreck is not for everyone, but if you've used one that hasn't been ABUSED and is in proper working condition, they do clean well.

will last many years, i get 10+yr old orecks in all the time for a tune-up/service at the shop.. yet to hear one of them say they dislike. if your expecting a kirby deep clean then you wont be happy...but if you want a very good dependable vac that does what its supposed to do then an oreck is hard to beat.

hhmmm

I tend to agree. I used the riccar I gave my mom on all her carpets and all I got was the fine gritty deep down dirt out of her carpets. I imagine after a few more weeks of using the riccar it will get worse but, she loves her oreck. Its 15 years old now I think and beat to hell. She has mostly tile and 4 large rooms of carpet so I got the riccar for her carpet and she refuses to use it lol.

No Orecks here Thank God

I agree with what you guys are saying about the Orecks. I never liked Orecks until I got my Oreck XL Platinum. It is quiet, powerful and just so handy to use everyday. The new hepa bags hold a lot and not a hint of any dusty smell. This is a very different machine from my Yellow XL Oreck which I just hated because it was so loud.
The Platinum is simple in design but it does seem to be very well constructed and has surprising suction for it's size. I had to "EAT" my words about the Oreck. All I can say is use one of the new ones. I love my Dyson but look how smple and straighforward the Oreck is in comparison.

oreck

I worked as an oreck servis manager for a while...the oreck is a well constructed piece of plastic, it would be a great electric broom, but is not a real vacuum cleaner, very good agressive brush action does not make up for the pitiful airflow, take one apart and use a kirby airflow meter and you will see, it moves less than half the air any good upright will, if it were sold for about 100 $ it would be a good buy, but is the best marketed vac on the market...I am not a fan of uprights, but try a Royal or Kirby, now they will really clean.

No Orecks Thank You!

Hans,
Nice to hear from you. I agree with everything you said except that the new Oreck is so darn easy to get out, easy to use and easy to change the bag and easy to store that it REALLY get used!
After all this is no APEX Strato cleaner! I remember when you showed me your APEX at the first convention I ever attended. I have never seen another cleaner with power like that APEX.
That was one terrific vacuum.
