No Love for SEBO

I have read through many posts and it seems there isn't much love for the SEBO D4. This is surprising to me as it is the best vacuum I have owned. What is it with SEBO that people don't like? There is a lot of love for Miele but I really cannot find fault with my D4. Sure, it isn't perfect, but what vacuum is?

No idea. I love SEBO. Their vacuums in my opinion are top notch in every aspect. They are not over priced, at leas tin the UK and their bags are like £1 each. Excellent, hospital standard filtration, exemplary build quality and proper performance. There is no surface which challenges my felix and the D4 premium is the best cylinder I have used. They are quiet, easy to sue and just work. Like the Macintoshes of vacuums.

I don't know how anyone could say they are substandard.

I guess everyone has an opinion. Or is entitled to express what they feel.

Generally, Im NOT a fan of the electrified canister vacs by SEBO. It shouldn't surprise anyone by now though I've said it ever since I joined this forum. I love their vacuums in general and I love the brand but there are a few things that I as an owner will simply not abide.

The best model SEBO ever made in terms of their canister line WITH the older ET-H was the SEBO C series. Tools that hide away under a flap, a massive dust bag and easy to steer. I dont know why SEBO haven't gone back to that design. The tools out the back of the D series CAN and are KNOWN to fall out.

After paying out so much for my K3 Premium canister, the vacuum's electric pigtail connector worked itself loose from the back of the handle to the top of the electric tube just after three years. The K3 was purchased well before SEBO UK introduced their free 5 year warranty.

SEBO UK sent out two free replacement pig tail connectors and it gave me another two years use out of the K3 Premium. Would I buy an electric SEBO canister again though? Never. Unless they change that dreadful pig connector as it is too vulnerable and virtually eliminates the chance for the SEBO handle to be disconnected from the tubes. Even my cousin in the U.S was pressed to buy the D4 until I got her a D1 from Canada without the electric nonsense.

Plus the cord through the hose is not as flexible as the hoses on the non-electrified versions.

That said, what the U.S buyers can't put up with ( or as it appears to me ) is a lack of the home grown American features they are so used to.

Proper full length dusting brushes that Aerus provide for example and countless other American brands. (I've yet to see a video of anyone's dusting brush not accumulate dust around the bristles whenever it is used and most U.S owners forget that there is a longer dusting brush available for SEBO's canisters fit for purpose)

Also a lack of a headlight seems to be a large issue - which I can't fathom why since most of the U.S is lighter environmentally due to the amount of sun compared to dark Europe. If you can't see into a dark corner of a room, switch on a light.

The hose "isn't long enough" seems to be another current issue in the last couple of years from reviews - well it is certainly long enough for the rest of the world and again you can buy SEBO's longer 3 metre extension hose to add to the existing one. I suspect U.S owners are pretty lazy and can't be bothered to put up with the extra bulk even though they're quite happy to moan about it.

Likeing Sebo...

I really like my Sebo Felix.At first;I did not,but,If one reads the manual one does learn how to use it.It deep cleans my carpets and had an array if attachments,plus the turbo nozzel for your upholstery.And for us asthma suffers it does filter very well.Though,I love my vintage vacuums they do not filter so well.So,hope you can give it a try again.Good luck...

Another Sebo lover here, though I don't have a D4, I think they're excellent cleaners. I have an X series upright that I've been using as my daily driver for years.

Who cares what other people think? The unfortunate truth is that most companies that made wonderful products in the past, are now churning out machines that don't hold an unlit candle to Sebo and their world-class quality. Their entire line may not be super-exciting, but they're made with integrity.

I'm a huge Sebo fan, I love the X range, Felix, BS36 and my K3 is my newest addition.

Nar's comments about the K3 are interesting, I agree the electrics of the hose/wand seem to be an issue.
I got mine second hand, it's 11 years old according to Sebo.
It needed a new hose as the previous owner had split it. I got a new one and re-used the previous pigtail connector, I can only presume it's the original, but it might not be, however it seems sturdy.

Next I found the wand connection at ET-H powerhead was faulty, it had become loose and had obviously been arcing, damaging the connectors.
I was able to get a new wand from eBay for a good price and then used the wire from the inside of the old wand to replace the original faulty connector. Sebo won't sell/source those, when I enquired at the vacuum shop he told me he refuses to sell electric based Sebo as they just cause problems.

The hose isn't as flexible as it should be which is a pain, but I do love the handle operated on/off and speed control, this also allows the cleaner to run quietly. Something the X series cannot do. It is also a short hose, but for use in a small house it works well enough.
It beats the other halfs Dyson handheld cleaner, even when it's on its lowest setting

I love the canister vacs, but again without the electric hoo hah = I agree Sean - I like the power slider on the handle but that's it - the hoses without embed cord are so much lighter and easier without twisting up. Interesting to know what you did regarding electric problems. I still have a new K3 electric twin tube as a spare.

I reckoned eventually that if SEBO improved the design of the pig tail, i.e added a far more substantial partition to either fit to the underside of the handle completely or just re-consider something more durable, then in time I would get a new SEBO cylinder vac with a PN again. But, as a fan of the Felix instead that uses the ET1 I prefer the Felix a whole deal more.

There are several reasons to why I favour SEBO as a brand - they are better than other German brands, not least the almost double amount of dust bags versus Bosch or Miele for similar cost. Proof that although some of their product lines are expensive to buy, the consumables are not.

I have the Sebo D1, since I don't have carpets, I didn't see the point in spending the extra for the D4, I really like it and would not hesitate to recommend it. Only issue I had was finding an adapter that would allow me to use standard attachments, the hose size is slightly different than Miele. The vacuum is made very well, and if I ever need a Sebo with a power head, I will definitely take a look at the D4

I do agree that there are some faults with the electrified D4. The hose does twist up, which can get quite frustrating. The machine has turned over a couple of times because of this. At first, I thought it was strange that there was no headlight, considering they are standard on most vacuums in the U.S., however, it really isn't needed. I don't vacuum in the dark so I don't know what the purpose really is. It is something we expect that really has no use. One of the reasons why I like it so much is I have had some pretty crappy vacuums. While the Rainbow and Kirby are quality machines, the Rainbow doesn't clean nearly as well and the Kirby has no filtration and is not practical for floor cleaning and above floor cleaning. For me, the D4 is wonderful. I love the way it cleans. I can overlook some of the issues because it does such a good job and I don't have to take an allergy pill before I vacuum. It would be nice if SEBO implements some of the changes you mentioned but I am happy. Beats paying nearly $1500 for a Miele when I got my D4 for $899. I would really like the Felix as well but wanted a canister for versatility.

Good to know your thoughts Shrink. I think everyone is different. Years ago when I first discovered the SEBO brand I adored everything they produced until the disaster with the K3P I bought. I realised then that nothing is ever perfect but the SEBO brand for me is near perfection when all other things are considered.

I also adore my new E1 Airbelt cylinder/canister and I'm impressed with it. I hear the U.S will be getting those models soon. The beauty of the SEBO is that the hoses are long enough for me just to depend on moving it around my home most of the time when the rest of the machine stays near stationery. Thus, cleaning time is usually quicker.
