Nilfisk Advance Model GD 930

I mentioned this machine before but I didn't have any of the details on it. My former employer bought this machine about 10 or 12 years ago. I thought it was an interesting machine, but not for household use. This one falls into the commercial arena, I should think.

I had reason to visit the building where I worked my last 20 years prior to retirement. One of my former coworkers let me prowl around and look at things. I was able to hunt up this Nilfisk and take a few pics of it.

The label on the bottom says, Nilfisk Advance, Model GD 930, Product Number 9055313-01, serial number 0140-00216.

It was an early HEPA filter model, the first one I'd seen. The inside looks kinda like a Hoover Celebrity with an H-Bag, but this bag is much larger. The down-draft goes through a circular element-type filter in the top before blowing through the motor.

The building was pretty sad; most of the activity has been moved to another facility and this building after standing since 1960, is slated to be torn down in about a year. Lots of empty space.

Two other sad machines in the building

I also found these two upright machines in the building, in obviously sad shape. The Eureka hasn't been used in years. I think the Hoover belongs to the custodial contractor. My employer stopped hiring in-house custodians and changed over to contractors who spent one quarter the amount of time cleaning as our custodians did. Now that the building is mostly empty, I imagine that even less time/money is being spent on cleaning.

What happened to the vacuum???

Did you rescue the Nilfisk? If so, they are good vacuums. You might like to use it in a garage or work shop.

No, I couldn't. My former employer is a federal government agency. Government property, no matter how unused, forlorn or forgotten is way off-limits. I had to satisfy myself with the pics. In fact, since this building is so under-utilized now, there isn't a supervisor in residence. I was with a former co-worker who didn't think anything about giving me access; I woulda never thought about asking a supervisor I didn't know for this permission. They would've automatically thought something fishy was going on. "Going into the boiler room to look at an old vacuum? What're you up to, anyway?" I'd have been okay if I'd known any of the supes. The supes I used to work for have all gone away; the new ones don't know me.

Hose handle

That hose handle is identical to european (and possibly Australian) Lux hose handles used from 1967 (Lux 100) thru to the late 1980s (model 350E, possibly others). The front of the black clip is a suction control, the clip was for the butterly dusting nozzle - brush upwards, wings downwards - an arrangement I always liked
