Actually.....Thats not the first.

The first from 1982 was in a deeper orange red color, and the end the appear to be black are actually a very dark brown color that Eureka called "Mocha". The orange was the same orange as the model 1780 Vactronic canister from the same time. I have one of the first from 1982, and the motor in mine is dated 1982.

This one is more pink, so it matches the Eureka Imperial upright from the later 80's. This body style of MM,was finally discontinued in the end of the 80's.

Brian,

You are absolutely correct that as this is a tried-and-true design, it indeed lasted quite a while. I have also seen a Sanitaire version of this.

OOPS: Took a closer look at the serial number and it says not 1988, but 1989! The week of manufacture given would fall between January 31-February 6, 1989.

This Mighty Mite body I'm pretty sure was sold into at least the early 90s. I have a white one from 1990 and I have a Sears catalog with a maroon one, around 1991-92.

I am not convienced it's NIB

On the third picture the filter as well as the bag chamber appears to have dust on them.

First picture, I thought I saw some paint scuffs, but it could be a light reflection.

I didn't see anything that looked used. It could be just typical scuffs from being moved around in the box after all these years. It is 35 years old. It could just be actual dust, too.

You are both right--

--as EBay has a new annoying feature of dropping a sold item description and putting something 'similar' in its place. The original MM WAS NEW and had the box in a picture. The similar MM is used.Great design, great vacs, but only new once.
