Newly restored Kirby GSix and G4

Some of you may have read my previous post. The link is provided, but to sum it up, I got a Kirby GSix from EBay. It came with all of the standard attachments except for the crevice tool, along with a complete shampoo system. It was in the worst condition I have ever gotten a vacuum in. The bag was filled with several pounds of dirt, so much that no more could fit inside the bag, the belt had snapped, a nylon sock had melted to the belt shaft, and the thing was covered in fine and coarse dust and hair inside out. We took it apart to clean it, and put it back together. When we turned it in, it ran unsteadily and very large sparks came from the motor brushes. We replaced the brushes to little effect, while also finding they both had large gouges in them. We then replaced the entire armature, but we used the old brushes because the new ones had been damaged. Still, no effect. After tearing the thing apart again, we just left it in our basement disassembled for an entire year. About a month ago we pulled it out and continued to work on it after getting a third pair of brushes. We finally put it back together for the final time, and now it runs like new. While repairing it we also picked up a G4 at Salvation Army. I had found matching tools for it earlier at ReStore. These two machines work very well and I am very happy to have them nice and fully working.

Very nice! These were very very high priced when new, so you don't see them as much as other models.

I just bought the 2001 limited edition one myself from a pawn shop on eBay for $40!

I do think all new brushes will spark when first inserted because they have to shape themselves to the armature as it runs before the proper gap is achieved.
