Another interesting note on the ZB-54

is that it was an "economy model," and the combination attachments - although much more practical to use and manage - were considered inferior to the XXX-style attachments, which were used very late with Canadian machines -- at least into the mid 1970s!! Even the Canadian version of the Automatic E had XXX-type attachments, despite the fact that the AE - even the Canadian model - had the metal clip to store the combo dusting brush!!

Constellation Smell

I noticed the Constellation smell too and thought there might be something going on with the motor, like maybe the carbon brushes or something like that because to me it had a faint burning odor to it. I took it to a Hoover service center...the guy was blown away to see this model 84 Connie! He didn't know what to do with it and didn't have a clue what the smell was. No that I think about it, it does have a hint of Lysol, though, the old fashioned one. I did change the filter...he got one for me...and the odor wasn't so strong. Glad to know it is common to all Connies. <br
But does anyone know what exactly does cause this? How about our Hoover experts? Jeff? Tom Anderson? What are your thoughts about this? <br

Lovely connie and in great shape. Cheesecloth is another thing you can use as a filter cover. HD also sells Filtrete refills for the reusable 3m plastic filters that you can cut to fit for all sorts of filtering apps.
