There is a great and vexing conundrum inherent in finding a vintage vacuum cleaner brand-new-in-the-box untouched-by-human-hands since the day it left the factory. And that is whether to leave it brand-new-in-the-box untouched-by-human-hands since the day it left the factory, or to take it out, put it together and use it.

For me, I guess it would depend on the manufacturer and model. If I found a brand-new Scott & Fetzer never used, I'd leave it that way, perhaps taking it out and putting it together one time to take some photos of it. If I found a brand-new Electrolux Model E, the temptation to use it would just be too great.

Subject to this is a brand-new Kirby Heritage on eBay (see link). If you won this, would you use it? Or keep it in the box?

This would be difficult for me. Having never owned a NIB vintage machine, I wouldn't want to use it. However, it would simply drive me crazy if I didn't use it! Even though I have two Heritage II sweepers, I don't think I could resist. So my answer would be use it occasionally and VERY gently.
