New Vax Air Motion upright

I've just noticed a few more new Vax cleaners on the Very website.

There's a new version of the Air upright with a swivel neck that looks good. The hose enters the head in the same place as the Hoover Windtunnel Air and the brushroll seems to have been redesigned.

I think I may try one out at some point, though not at the current price of £249.00 ($390).I expect at least £100 to be shaved off that price before too long as Vax models always seem to go up and down in price.

I expect the U.S. will get a version of this under the Hoover brand.

Looks quite good. Clearly Vax have been looking at the Sebo Felix and others that swivel. Could be a bagless alternative but then I'd question the plastic quality having since owned the previous Vax Mach Air. If it had a variable suction function on it, I could be very interested again.

really like it but i'm really pissed because I have the Hoover Windtunnel Air and if this comes out in the US that will just be a kick in the face to anyone that has the Windtunnel Air.

Well not really - who's to say that the new swivel will be problem free? If its anything like the swivel on the Hoover Slalom which can be problematic and refuse to lock up sometimes, I'd say stick with what you have for the moment PLUS I seem to read a lot of reviews in the U.S about the Windtunnel Air being pretty good - you could get a good sale price on it if you keep it good and sell it on.

Doesnt matter - keep it for some time and then sell it privately on the U.S equivalent of Gumtree - Craigs list is it called? You can fix any price you like. Something online that deals with second hand buys. You could even clean it up, fit new filters to it, maybe add a non-branded turbo tool to it, something extra (Im not sure if it comes with a pet tool as standard.).

Didn't the UK version of the Windtunnel Air not have the Windtunnel Technology? I see that this one does feature it, judging by the stock photo.

probably sell it. It didn't come with a Turbo brush, but there is one for the "As seen on TV" version.

The Vax Mach Air has dual suction channels on the front plate - so in theory the dual suction channel design of the Windtunnel has been carried over to Vax. I always assumed this is what the "Windtunnel" effect was when looking at old stock photos of Hoover U.S patents.

Windtunnel

I took the Windtunnel effect to be two streams of air, one in front of the agitator, the other behind the agitator.

The front airstream is supposed to capture the particles scattered by the beating-sweeping process. This I think this is a slot that is thin, yet wide; allowing a full nozzle width capture of grit particles.

The rear airstream, I suppose, allows the usual gathered dirt to be removed with a faster, superior efficiency, before it can bounce back off the agitator cavity walls, into the carpet.

Vax Mach Air

This doesn't have Windtunnel technology. It has simply, a split suction channel which equalises suction across the full-width of the head. This is compared to machines like, for example, a Hoover Turbopower or Electrolux Contour, where the suction duct is offset to one side.

Windtunnel technology on the other hand, whilst having a similar offset suction duct to the Turbopower and Contour, also has the fore and aft channels to whisk away the particles.

THE VAX VERSION OF THE HOOVER WINDTUNNEL AIR HAS ITS SUCTION HOSE FOR THE AGITATOR CAVITY MOUNTED IN THE CENTER AND THE HOOVER TO THE SIDE......THUS A DIFFERENT AGITATOR HOUSING COMPLETELY.....I THINK THE VAX VERSION IS MUCH MORE ASTHETICALLY ATTRACTIVE BECAUSE THE SIDE MOUNTED HOSE GETS TORN UP GOING UNDER COVES AND CABINETRY OF MY CUSTOMERS ......CENTER MOUNT WOULD BE BETTER

But with all due respect, having the suction channels located on either side has really nothing to do with the hose being centrally mounted or put to the side. Vax could have retained that part of the design, regardless. To be honest I'd have preferred the Hoover design compared to the central hose at the back. Looking back I can see where I've gone wrong with my thought about the Windtunnel patents, but then it is confusing with a lot of the design info you get about this online. Vax also used the "Windtunnel" name to describe the floor head on their Mach 9 series:


 


Clearly I can see dual paths of air "lines' up and over/behind the brush roll.

I was going to create a new topic, but no point really since this topic can stay open.. anyway "new" Hoover upright has appeared - seems to be a rehash of the old Slalom. Now it's called the Globe. There are 3 models, GL1103, GL1105 and GL1109.

So here we have another example of a catalogue run. The Proline UVC18 bagless upright on the left. Not many who are in the know would probably love this £44-99 vacuum cleaner. www.very.co.uk have the actual original Vax model, the U88-T1-S on the right, although it seems to be priced at £139-99 which is obviously a mistake as it lacks the turbo tool. Even the Proline has a better look to the original Vax.
