Hello, I'm a new collector, was just wondering what are some good vacuums to add to the collection. I currently have 6 vacuums: a Hoover Dimension Upright, a Hoover Caddy Vac, a Hoover Soft & Light Supreme, a Hoover Widepath Tempo, a Bissell 3-in-1 vac, and a Eureka THE BOSS hand vac.

The Picture below is of my Dimension (manufactured in September of '94, sorry for it being blurry.)

Welcome!

It's always nice to see new collectors on here, and you have found a wealth of knowledge on this site. Many of us have been collecting for a while, some have repair/restoration knowledge, and we all have varying backgrounds and expertise so dig into the forums, look at the archives, you just never know what you will find on here!

As for the types of machines to collect, you will find that the number of suggestions you will get will be as unique as the collectors on here! It really all comes down to personal preference, what you grew up with, experiences you've had with vacuums in the past etc. For example, I personally go wild over the older vintage Hoover vacuums (some as old as the 1920's, all the way up to the Convertibles); however my all time favorite is the Electrolux vacuum cleaners. I probably have close to 100 Model XXX's and many more other metal body luxes. I grew up with Electrolux vacuums in my home, was given my very own Super J when I was a kid, and I always seem to gravitate to them....with that said, another collector may have a totally different opinion as to what they want/collect and for quite possibly similar reasons!

Good luck on your collecting quest and don't hesitate to ask questions, contact members, and most importantly, enjoy what you do and collect! Again, welcome to the club!

Different kind of collectors

Very cool the different collectors you see on this page. I usually have two or three vacuums at a time, many on this sight have many more than that. I would probably have 5 or so if I was not married with a wife who thinks all vacuums do the same thing.

Currently I have a Miele S7, Hoover Insight and an imported Vorkerk 131. I am still wanting a couple other vacuums one from Lindhaus and one from Panasonic. I used to collect old Kirby's from second hand shops refurb them like new and sell them for double the money. That is what got me started as I would find cool vacuums from Vorwerk or Rainbow. I have owned them all over the last 20 years at one time. Below is one of the best, I will get another soon as I believe it to be the most powerful I have ever used.

That's a nice looking machine vegassucks. It truly does look like one of the best.

Poweful

it is Very Powerful. When you put your hand over the suction hose and stop the flow the machine jumps and it is heavy. I do believe it to be more powerful than any upright on the market. Probably sell the Miele S7 and get it again. I just do not have the room for more than 3

I think you need a power nozzle canister.

My favorite vacuum is a power nozzle canister vacuum. Everything from the sound, power, versatility, durability, ease of use and abiltity to just clean everything from automobile interiors to upholstery, steps, tile floors to plush carpets all terrificly-- with the right model-- and you're in great shape.

You seem to be into the newer stuff but I would check out the local thrift shops, Craigslist and vacuum stores in your area for a Hoover canister, older Eurkea canister, Panasonic canister, FilterQueen, Riccar or Aerus/ Electrolux. Kenmores are nice too and is actually the most common that you'll come across. Kenmore has had so many models over the years, it just depends on what style you like the most. My favorite canister vacuum is a Hoover power head canister anything from Celebrity series to Windtunnel series. Not the Duros line and I prefer a headlight equipped model.

Here's some that may spark your interest?

I'm fussy about what I collect. I choose based on performance, color, style, brand, etc. There's a lot that interest me and certainly many that don't interest me. I tend not to get anything made prior to 1970. I just don't really like that style and plus power head canisters didn't take off much till the 70's.

I have no idea what your budget is or where you live in Illinois. I scoured through Illinois Craigslist website doing some searches and the following is a list I compiled, that if I lived in the area and was looking to expand my collection, these machines spark my interest. Best of luck and I hope it is helpful! Craigslist changes all the time so next week could be many more terrific ones or no good additions at all. You just never know!!
