Hi Guys,

Don't know so much about vacs I'm afraid, more of a washer guy, so not really sure what my best option is here.

My Grandad has Dirt Devil Bagless cylinder thing which clogs at the drop of a hat and barely picks anything up, so I want to get him a new vacuum for Christmas.

Now, his house has a combination of extremely deep pile and difficult to clean carpets, shorter pile carpets, and hard floors, so it needs to be able to effectively vacuum all floor surfaces.

He also has a dog who leaves hair everywhere, especially on the deep pile living room carpet and this is extremely hard to remove.

He's 74, so it needs to be light, manouverable and easy to use.

It will be a joint present with my Mum, so my buget is up to £180.

I'd love to get him a DC24, but I think that would be difficult with my budget.

So for this price, which machine would clean the deep pile carpets the best, whilst still being practical with the limitations mentioned above?

Bagged or bagless is fine, and I'm open to either uprights or cylinders.

Any help is much appreciated!

Matt

a dc24 might be a bit small as an everday vacuum. i recommend a miele, but they can be pricey. for a lower price, maybe a hoover platinum lightweight, hoover t series, or bissell healthy home?

get him the Miele S5261 at Argos for 200 pounds - the turbo nozzle should take care of that pet hair!!!! I know it's a bit over your budget, but this vac is very quiet and powerful. Ask Argos to thrown in a nice parquet tool as it does not seem to have one. see link below.....

Or buy the cheaper 2110 (in blue) (very light and highly rated here in North America) and add on a turbo carpet nozzle for 30 pounds (150 + 30 = 180)

Thanks for the help so far!

I know a lot of American Hoover models are sold as Vax in the UK, I have been looking into the Vax Mach air if anyone has any advice on the performance of these?

I would love ot get him a Miele and have seriosuly considered this, but he doesn't have much money at all tbh and I don't think he would be able to afford the bags, have just priced them up, they're not cheap!

Here is a link ot the Vax Mach Air.

Thanks again!

Matt
