new vacuum advice please!

I need some advice on a new vacuum that I will be using to clean our church. I recently took over cleaning and all of the vacuums are worn out and the church refuses to replace them. I would like to buy a brand new vacuum and use it there and at home. I would like to spend no more than $100 but a little more for the right one would be ok. I dont really care if it is bagged or bagless, but bags must be cheap and readily available. a decent warranty would be good, I will be cleaning about 10,000 square feet of carpet. That is a main reason that I dont want to use any of mine- the warranties ran out long ago :) BTW, we have the usual Kmart, walmart, Target , and Meijer within 30 miles. What would be a decent vacuum that will meet my needs? THANK YOU!
 
A COMMERCIAL vacuum is what's required for a job of that size if you want it to last at all. Go on eBay and find a used Sanitaire, or go to a janitorial supply store and find a good quality commercial machine. Some good brands to look at are: Sanitaire, Kent, Advance, Tennant, Powr-Flite, Lindhaus, Windsor, and Sebo.
 
sorry, ebay is out of the question, I dont buy anything off of ebay. I would like a commercial vacuum, but money is an issue.
 
Do you have a Sams Club?

If so they have a commercial Eureka F&G upright, I believe it is $139.

Otherwise about the only decent uprights for around $100 in my opinion would be the bagged Kenmore uprights
 
Well then you're basically screwed. The cheap garbage at the big-box stores will never last in a commercial environment and will not be able to handle that much dirt.
 
what kind of vacs does the church have? maybe they will pay for them to be fixed

just leave the carpets dirty till they get the idea
 
Your best bet is to go to Sams Club and get a commercial Eureka. Or any bagged Kenmore upright is GREAT. My suggestion, is the Kenmore Intuition Upright. It is 199 at sears. It has powerflow, dirt sensor, long hose, telescopic metal wand, dirt drive beltless system, on/off brushroll, and more. It is WAY worth the money
 
You could go to a vacuum store that carries Sanitaires and get one of those too. But I also wouldn't get any of the cheap junk, would just be more frustration and breakage than its worth.
 
More votes in favor of the Sanitaire. I knew I was on to something. I mean, I only have 5 going on 6 years experience in commercial cleaning, and all these other people are vacuum experts in their own right.
 
Joe- great idea about leaving the carpets dirty, they are not getting clean anyway, so that wont be too hard! what kind of Vacs: 1. Bissell powerforce bagged, 2. Hoover windtunnel bagless, 3. Fantom thunder bagless, 4. Eureka whirlwind bagless, 5. Dyson dc07, all are worn out and the church wont pay to have them fixed.
 
Matt- I respect yours and everyone elses opinion and yes I agree that a commercial sanitaire would be best, but money is a major issue. I am asking what would be the best cheap vacuum for the price would be, if that is even possible. I dont really expect it to last, I just need a vacuum that will clean well for now, until the church has money to buy a good one. I am buying this vacuum with my own money because i am tired of vacuums that dont pick up anything.
 
Thanks everybody, great advice, I think I am going to start using one of my kirbys until I can afford a commercial vacuum. that sounds like the best way to go.
 
do they expect you to provide the cleaning equipment? the bathroom cleaner, detergents

if its like my church the vacs were donated by people who got new ones, the ONLY one that's been there for a while is a kirby classic III

maybe you could get a parishioner to donate a new vac

Ebay is out of the question, he was hoping we would tell him to go buy a Hoover Windtunnel T series and that it would last 10 years under commercial use....
 
Too bad I didn't know about this sooner!

Last THursday, I was at IMPACT!,one fo my usual Thurday haunts. There sat a yellow Eureka metal base, yellow hood commercial upright. It was only $15.00 I'm no fan, of course, but for a fellow vac guy, I'd have gladly picked it up for you. Should I look and see if it is still there this Thursday? Chances are its' gone, but.......I cleaned my xhurxh for years... miles and miles of carpeting. I told the pastor we HAD to have a DECENT machine. He told me, " Ok, go and get one" Enter the HOOVER Guardsman. It was new, kept St. John's beautiful. I also got the attachments.. Heaven, no pun intended.

Dustin, if you are able to repair the machines, I really think either the Windtunnel or the DC07 should be repairable and could very well continue to run without "biting the dust" (pun intended lol).

Those older Windtunnel vacs seem to keep going if maintained and should be easy to work on. May just need a few simple things done. The plus side with the Dyson is that it has one of the best dirt seperation methods so you would be able to go much longer before having to rinse off the filter, also you will be able to maintain peak performance throughout cleaning. The Windunnel should be capable of the tasks as well however you will have to clean the filter often to maintain performance and reliability.

The Bissell bagged thing is pry a piece of cake to fix. It is a cheapy but bags are a dime a dozen for those things.

Hopefully you will be able to solve your dilemma.
 
Let me make a suggestion. . .

Dustin--This is Nathan, Electrolux Dude. Check the pawn shops, and thrift stores, as well as garage sales. I once bought a back-pack type vacuum at a pawn shop for less than $100.00. A Backpack vacuum looks like an Electrolux except it's lighter. Backpacks have a swivel hose on top, plus an "S" bend type wand and a floor brush. If you don't want a backpack, I regularly see Sanitaires at Pawn Shops, usually for little of nothing. Sure, they might need cleaning but they are easy to work on. I found a commercial Advance carpetwin 16 inch wide head vacuum at a thrift store--by the time they gave me the discount--I paid less than $10.00 for it. I have used that vacuum for quite some time, and have not had any problems whatsoever with it, other than blowing the motors out with an air compressor. I know the Advance seems big and heavy and bulky but with your description of the size of the church--I'd say the bigger the better. Backpacks work well in the fact that the brush attachment on the end of the wand is wide--12 inches or so--and of the one I had, it worked very well.
Hope this helps--Pawn shops, thrift stores, garage sales, this is where I find most of my vacuums. Most of them I pay usually less than $20.00.

If ebay and other places aren't up to your standards, why not just buy a Sanitaire from me? I have a few of them available and I'm sure we could set something up for you.
 
Hey there Dustin......try looking for this:

It's a basic Eureka F&G Dial-A-Nap that is available in Canada and should be available through your Eureka/Electrolux/Sanitaire dealer. The model is 1934 and was on sale for about $100 bucks at Sears in the 1990's. Eureka still sells them - its a cheap version of a Sanitaire that will suck the dirt through a concrete floor!

Im actually using a Eureka 1934 now, but mine wont even suck the dirt OFF of a concrete floor... and Matt, I am actually buying a windsor versamatic from Kyle. thanks anyway!
