OK, so tonight, I got the Electrolux Ultralux that I bought for 15 dollars.... apparently this model was made just for QVC. It came with a book, and the book had a date of 2002, which I think is right around the time that Electrolux became Aerus. The book says Aerus all over it, but the cleaner itself only says Electrolux. Strange! When I got it, it was a mess.... scuffs and dirt everywhere, and the brushroll had lots of string and debris on it. The HEPA type filter is black. Other than that, the lady took good care of it... no crazy damage, the cord isn't even gouged and the upper cord hook is still intact (they usually fall off or crack). The lady I got it from (Courtney her name was, same name as the lady I got my last Electrolux (Reniassance, now my two latest vacuums have both been Electroluxes).... though not the same person! This one had 3 young daughters (so I'm amazed the cleaner wasn't in worse shape).... she said her mom bought the cleaner several years ago and she's had it for a year, but decided to "go bagless" because she kept forgetting to order bags for this one.... I don't know what she replaced it with. Didn't come with any attachments, just the cleaner and the book.
First impressions:
There are some really unique things about this model that set it apart from other Lux uprights. Firstly, the bag inlet fill tube is on the other side (side opposite the L shaped wing). The upper cord hook is a flip down kind instead of a twist kind... I've never seen that before on another cleaner and I've often wondered why manufactures didn't make one like that... now I know! It "drops" the cord very easily, at the slightest touch actually and you have to wrap the cord very loosely or it won't stay up at all... there is no cord clip, so that's annoying since the cord comes out of the machine halfway down the cleaner body. Also, to turn it on, you have to press the switch backwards... rocker switches are usually pressed forward to turn on, at least in vacuums, I think. The handle is bent at a really weird angle, but it's super comfortable to hold and is contoured really nicely.... the position of the power switch couldn't be better. It does have a brushroll off setting. Also has a full bag indicator. It even has a suction relief valve on the hose port lid for reducing the suction for delicate things... I can't imagine using it, because the suction isn't tremendous to start with.... and it's only for use on carpet/floors of course because the door is not used when the hose is inserted. No headlight or height adjust.... I do wish it had a headlight. Blue LED lights would look great on this vacuum. A vacuum that doesn't have either a ballooning bag or a headlight seems "dead" to me... no personality, you can't tell its on just by looking, you have to be be listening! It does have an overload reset button for the power nozzle. The book doesn't tell how to change the belt, it says if the belt breaks to take it to a Lux dealer... crazy! I'm sure that's all about the money. The handle and cord hook seem flimsy, but overall quality seems adequate. It's really easy to push and the wheels are rubber coated. Nice for bare floors (but they can leave skid marks too). In true Electrolux form, the suction motor isn't super loud, but the power foot is CRAZY loud.... super whiny, worse than my Diamond Jubilee. It doesn't even sound like a vacuum cleaner, more like a cheap power saw or drill.
All in all, I'm glad to have it.... I haven't had an Electrolux upright for a while now.... I used to have their first upright, but it was a monster (weight and size)... it looked like something Frankenstien would have used, so when the wheels fell off I threw it out.... sometimes I do want to use an Electrolux, but don't want to deal with assembling the hose and power nozzle, so this will certainly fill a void in the collection. I couldn't resist for 15 dollars.... I scan Craig's List every day, and usually find overpriced junk, so when I find a nice machine for a steal, it really makes me feel good.
