New to the site & group.

Hi Everyone, my name is Paul and i live in Buffalo, New York. I just joined the site and i look forward in meeting my fellow vacuum cleaner enthusiasts. I've been interested and have loved vacuums for as long as i can remember. I just went to an estate sale this past weekend and what did i find? A very nice Kirby Classic Omega with attachments {$35.00} the machine is in nice gently used condition. It runs great and the suction is very strong. This belonged to an elderly lady that passed away. I say it's a 7 or 8 out of 10. It's not been converted yet and i don't plan to do that. I want to use it as my regular upright for awhile. Although I'm a purest when it comes to vacuums. I will be replacing the outer bag {which as been replaced anyway} with another Kirby gold bag appropriate to this model. I'll contact the company to get one. And put a new brush roll on it. Again, it's nice to meet everyone!

Kirby Omega Side View

Here is the side view of my Kirby. With a little more polish and clean up she'll look very good. For some reason the Classic and Omega aren't popular. But i think there cool. Not to mention good cleaners.

The wood grain on that Kirby looks a little washed-out compared to the beautiful crotch mahogany on that clock!!! If that is your first machine-watch out they breed like rabbits!!!

That's a nice looking Omega you have. I'm sure you'll find out (if you haven't already) that there are a lot of friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable people here and there are no strangers, just friends we haven't met yet!! And I agree with Rick--watch out, vacuums breed like rabbits!!

And again for the upteenth time, Welcome to the club!

Your Omega's bag may just have the original bag on this later rendition. I have seen all three bags--the pinstripe, the "dotted" diamond, and the one like you have. The dotted diamond had a much shorter cord-like 20ft due to the oil crisis back in the 70's. You will know if yours is shorter as it will only wrap around about 4-5 times if I recall correctly.

These are great machines and Kirbys are amongst my favorites. And may I add....you've been warned about the rabbits....it's true!

Hi Paul, and welcome! Glad you're not going to do a bag conversion on the Kirby. I figure, if people want a vacuum that's super-duper-hepa-filtering, they can get a new one for that! Removing the Sani-emptor totally ruins the "rhythm" of the Kirby's shape and design, and none of the "fit-all" paper-liner bags are very attractive.

THANKS FOR THE WARM WELCOME!

Thanks everyone who wrote to me and posted there welcome. I look forward in joining the group soon and too meet more members. I've been polishing up the Kirby and she is looking very good! I replaced the old bag with the same bag but brand new. I kind of have a thing about using an old bag from someone else's home. I've seen one bag on E-bay that had the Omega name in a badge on it. I wish those were still being made. But this one looks pretty good. One of the posters made a good point by saying that these Kirby's really do suck and lift the rug up. And they do! But compared to my Dual 50. These large head Kirby's can be a bit cumbersome to move. Especially if you have a smaller home and need to make quick turns. I bet that was a complaint when these were introduced. All in all, i do like the Classic and Omega for ushering in the new era of Kirby. Going hunting this Saturday. Maybe something will pop up!
