Hey guys I need some advice. I am getting a new to me Kirby soon, I am inheriting it from a neighbor who is moving. I am an electrolux man, and have never even used a Kirby. My neighbor smokes and has cats, so I imagine there will be some "cleaning " needed before I use the vac. What do I need to do? Can the outer bag be washed? I will change the brush roll for sure. I have mostly brick floors with persian wool rugs throughout the house. Any advice would be appreciated. I am excited about my first Kirby, hope my Luxes don't get jealous. lol

Go to the Kirby site A.S.A.P. and order a bottle of Odoriffic, also, if they still make it their own carpet fresh. One drop of Odoriffic will get rid of the smells.
Removing the bag will be a real problem as it's held to the Sani-Em-Tor with a very strong spring, removing the bag from the Em-tor is almost imposible! You can also take it outside in the fresh air and let it run for a while, but the Odoriffic should work. However, one drop or two at the most, it's very powerful stuff.

I just looked at the Kirby home page. There are now 3 types of Odorific. Original, Cinamon, and vanilla. Each is a 3oz bottle. There is also a section on pet care, removal of pet odors and so on. Check it out. Start with a new disposable bag, and let it run. You can also take a cotton ball, saturate it with after shave, vanilla, or any scent you like and place it inside the outer bag. As you run the Kirby the scent will fill the room, again don't use much.

Yes! Kirby is great on hardwoods. Turn off the belt, and go with straight suction, then vacuum as usual. If you have the Miracle Head, use that in place of the main nozzle. Go to the home page of Vacuum Land, look up instruction books, there's one for the Kirby Classic 111 read it. There might also be a floor duster/buffer, if you don't have one, order it, they work great!!!
To polish the floor to a high gloss you can 'burnish' by moving the tilt latch on the power plant to off position, lower the handle all the way down, then lock it with the latch pin. Now the weight of the motor is on the Miracle Head, and it gives a powerful polishing, but be careful, the Kirby can easily get away from you.

Kirby's are great on brick, stone, tile, and hardwood floors. If there are attatchments, use them! The wall brush is great on floors. As I said, look at the instruction book of the Classic 111, as it covers every Kirby the same way. By the way, I don't need the exact model number, I know what you will be getting. I'm getting a new (to me) Classic 111 in a week or so, and my Electrolux LX will be a jelous as your Electrolux's, but they'll get over it.

But if you have the time read the entire thread, as I tell a lot about working for both Electrolux (my first job at age 17) and Kirby as both salesman and training manager. The stories about my trainees give a lot of info.

Back in my Kirby days, the original Odorific which was introduced with the run of the Omega in the mid 70's was great stuff. We used to demonstrate it by cutting an onion and putting 1 drop on the onion and it totally killed the odor. The new Odorific is not as good, there are still products out there that I believe is the same as the original, I think one is called Nil Odor, it works great. I have a few bottles of the original Odorific that I have acquired over the years that I used to find inside the Sani pocket of the Classic III bags.

In all my years as a Kirby trainer I never heard that one. Our demo kits were filled with all sorts of things, so it looks like a new topic, 'the demo kit,' because there was everything but the kitchen sink in there.

I am sorry if this reply is OT here, but in case you want to know any tidbits: Kirby tells me they had dropped all the classic Duster Buffers (#206052 13" wide version for models 505-512; #206056 13" wide version for models 513-D80, and #206069 16" wide version for models 1CR-1HD) from their inventory about six months after the Heritage II originally went on sale. They told me it was in "mid-1985."

That variation of the duster buffer (G4)
is packaged with the Floor Care Kit for the Sentria. Also in the kit is the Miracle Head and the waxer. I bought one from Sara's Vac Shack (member of the VCCC) for my Sentria, and I believe they are still available from Kirby.
