I'm not going to be Jim Keeler and be aggressive about this, but even though it would probably never be efficient, let alone work, what if there was a bagless Kirby conversion that used Rainbow esque water filtration. It would likely be bulky and inefficient, but it seems more original than a Eureka Optima bin with some PCV pipe for $100.
~This was just a random thought I had thinking about the Kirby Shampoo system
 
I have thought about that as well a time or two. However the problem is that there is to much movement to be able to keep the air inlet constantly just below the water line. Not to mention the mess you would have if the machine tipped over.
 
Kirby, considering the fubar mess I made when I dumped my Turbo H20 over twice I shudder to think what a fully loaded water Kirby could do!
