It's late now and tomorrow will be hectic, so this one will have to wait for the weekend for her maiden voyage. When I take this one for a spin, I'll make a thread about the new Platinum Series upright that John so generously gifted to me.

If you have berber like I do, I put a weight on the top to add some weight so it would extract more water. It worked REALLY well and didn't harm the machine. I just used a small amount of packing tape to tape the weight on the top so it would stay while cleaning

Hoover's good, but...
I used to think my Hoover Spinscrub (which bit the dust this year) was pretty good. However, my new Bissell Big Green is excellent. The Bissell Pet urine formula works well too. My old fart dog (15 years) has lost her bladder control, and the Bissell has done wonders in removing the stinkle. I haven't done any formal tests obviously, but the Bissell seems to remove a lot more dirt than the Hoover did. I don't know how the suction compares, but the Big Green scrubs more effectively (on my medium pile carpeting) and has a pump to dispense the cleaning solution. I see a lot more sandy dirt in the recovery tank than I ever saw in the Hoover. On the negative side, it is harder to push/pull than the Hoover.

Congrats -- I still think that design of SteamVac is the best on the market. Time tested and not overly complicated with heaters and other gizmos. Gravity fed cleaning solution, no pumps or other mixing valves to become problematic. When I sold these, I would tell people to never loan them out to friends or family, and to ALWAYS clean out all of the tanks and let everything air dry for a day or two before reassembling and putting the machine away.
I've also often found that once done cleaning a room -- turn the brushes off (they run on a turbine) -- which gives you a bit more suction. I go over the carpet a second/final time to extract any additional water. Of course, it's also a good idea not to overly saturate the carpet with water to begin with. Once or twice over an area is usually quite sufficient.

The Bissell Big Green does not have a heater, but it does have a pump. Unfortunately, like the Rugdoctor, you cannot turn off the brush roll. I agree with you that it's a plus to be able to turn off the brushes at times. The Bissell with the belt driven brush roll does produce more carpet lint than the "gentle" Hoover spin scrub. Glad that you love your Hoover.

I don't think people realize how much difference there is using these steam vacs on different "types" of carpet.....Berber is so LOW that it's as if it's just barely touching the carpet...I always felt like I was totally wasting my time and leaving the carpet more wet than it should be...
At first, I just laid the weight on the top and when I saw how much more water I was able to get out and examined the bottom as is pushed it across the rug with the weight on, and saw that it wasn't really harming anything, I then just used some packing tape to tape the weight on each side...It added weight to the machine, but I didn't care because it made it work 10 x better than before!
