The reason the 470 is louder is because of the slightly more powerfull brush motor and the vibrations caused by the longer brush roll.
Those figures on the quietness are very misleading. To get those test results they put the vacuum into a soundproof room with walls that absorb sound. Then hold the test equipment a meter away to get that result.
In real life the sound bounces off walls and echo's . if you took a sound meter you would find the noise of that machine closer to 85db than 68-69 db , in real life you would hardly notice the difference in the machines. That said they are one of the quietest vacuums on the market

Personally I don't think SEBO use a lot of development money in engineering quieter-than-quiet motors - again it's a slight downside to being a private companies. Their motors are generally quiet, but not as quiet as Miele or Bosch.

sebo motors are all standard off the shelf items available to a variety of vacuum manufacturers buy a otor company called dommel.

Sebo use universal motors which are avalable to anyone, they don't engineer them. The motors in the current Felix and series have B/S/H on them. Felix's no longer have the Ametek Italia suction motors but have Ametek brush roll motors. The machines are engineered well to contain the noise.

Not the ones Ive seen in the UK!! Ive seen Ametek printed on the motors & the last time I looked at a Felix in bits was Thursday. As ive said Sebo now use B/S/H in the Felix which is all metal and the fan blades contain more 'fins' to run cooler (the older Ametek Italia motor had a plastic body, it was either white or dark brown. Depending on year of manufacture).
The most up to date serial number is Z which the letter is at the beginning of the serial number. 'U'

Dommel motors...
I recall someone on the forum saying Sebo is now using the Dommel motors in the Electronic 370, and that these motors burn out a lot faster than the old manufacturer's motor. It was suspected that Sebo did so to increase the replacement rate of the vacuum, thus generating more sales due to quicker turn over.
It it true?
I have this vacuum with the older power head, but the blue and white Windsor version. Called the Versamatic Plus. It is a good cleaner. Very solid. I also have the original Versamatic. Both a great machines.
When did Sebo switch over to Dommel motors? I get a sinking feeling in my gut thinking that a company known for its quality would go the route of planned obsolescence.

In North America, the X series and dual motor uprights originally used Ametek Lamb suction motors, but the current models use suction motors made by Domel in Slovenia. Brush motors used to be made by AEG, but are now manufactured by Ametek Italia. I believe they switched their suction motors when Ametek moved their Lamb plant from Kent, Ohio to Reynosa, Mexico.
The Felix's, as Emmanuel mentioned, originally used both Ametek Italia suction and brush motors. I have not seen the current Felix suction motor, but if stamped B/S/H, they are sourced from Bosch Siemens Hausgeräte.

Im getting a new Felix next week so I'll be interested to see what motors they use. I know the current g1 uses the domel motors, we sell allot of these. The felix's I worked on were a few years old so maybe they have changed back.We have one in the workshop that has both motors as domel but we have just assembled it and Im not in the mood to strip it down again 
Please let us know about that new Felix motor, Gareth. A lot of us are Felix owners and we're very interested to know.
Are those Bosch B/S/H motors known to be good? I understand there was some reliability issues with the original Ametek Italia motors which is why Sebo changed them. I thought the Ameteks were pretty much bulletproof. Is there something different about the Amateks used in the old Felix?

Right-oh, I emailed Sebo UK this morning and got a reply same day.
"...We used to use Ametek motors in most of our machines and at one time they made the best motors available, but in recent years other companies have started making motors that are better and more modern and efficient in design. If someone was familiar with the old USA made Ametek motors, they would hold them in high regard, but the new ones aren’t the best any more. The motors we use now are of greater quality, give outstanding performance and are the class leaders. Making a fast buck definitely wasn’t the reason for changing!
The 370 is like a BS 36 which takes X type bags. It doesn’t replace the BS, but sells alongside it as a different version..."
