Here are some pictures of a wonderful Royal 880 sent to me by a very special friend. Marty Thank You for making my Royal collection complete. For those of you who have been reading the thread "What is my vacuum Worth".. this one for me is priceless. Vacuums gifted to me by friends have no price.

Now for some serious above the floor cleaning. This vacuum has descent suction for a little 4 amp motor. Plus the fact that Royal tools are heavy duty. Unlike many of the newer vacuums on the market today, this actually has an honest to goodness dusting brush. Not some whimpy little plastic bristle wanna be... of course this us just my opinion.

Marty Thanks again for thinking of me and sharing. This completes my Royal collection perfectly. YOUR THE GREATEST!!!

She's a Beauty

Morgan, congratulations on your new toy. I love those blue attachments--perhaps even more than the red ones. Enjoy playing with your new toy today.

Mike

Nice Pair

I really like that Royal upright/canister pair. That would be a great cleaning combo. How are they on sound? I know the new royals are extemely loud. Also, how easy is it to convert the upright for attachments? Do you have to take off the belt? Are they as difficult as Kirbys?

Thanks Mike,

It may be a total indoor day here, 94 plus high humidity.. so the yard may wait.

Tim,

The older Royals are not loud like the newer ones. I think they may be slightly quieter than a Kirby and the Royal Pony is very quiet, not Lux G quiet but close.

Those are very nice vacs. I think they're actually one of the nicest looking as well but I've never seen one anywhere that I remember, only the Royal canisters. I'll ask at the local vac shops next time I'm in to see if they ever carried them or run across one.

Wow, Morgan! What a great gift. How old is the blue Royal? They are very pretty machines and yours is in such great shape. You bring up a very good point about priceless items that have strong sentimental value. I know in my collection that there are some machines that I will never sell for any amount of money. Thanks for sharing the great photos and congrats again on your latest machine.

cool! i too am very pleased with the tool suction on these models. much better than most traditional-style uprights.

you DO have to lift the belt by hand, or use Royal's famous Belt Lifter tool. (the belt lifter is little more than a stick to pry the belt with!) thankfully, im strong enough to lift it!

Love the metal-body Royal uprights ...

Morgan,

Great Royal collection. Love the metal-body upright models, very classic. Personally, I like Royals over Kirbys since they remind me more of the Hamilton Beach upright we had when I was a little tike. I especially like the front hose conversion. I know it's a pain with removing the belt but "back in the day" there were many uprights configured that way i.e. GE/Premiers, Apex, Larks, etc. And Swingette is right, they do have decent hose suction. I also like the quality attachment set!!

Functionally, I think Royal uprights are more balanced than the 500 series Kirbys where the rug nozzle easily came off the carpet on the back stroke, too much spring in the handle along with the big bag. Royals don't seem to do that. With Kirbys, you really had to practice that back stroke, slow and easy. Hmmmm, maybe it all started .... Anyway, I digressed. All in all, very nice machines. Enjoy!!!

Morgan that is a beautiful Royal, I love those attachments as well. Now that is one quality home cleaning system.

What a wonderful cleaner, Morgan. I have an 880 that is my everyday cleaner. I absolutely love it. I too would be interested in knowing the approximate age, if anyone knows. I got mine from Roger, who has found a fair amount of Royals around Tucson.

Congratulations!!

Morgan, that's one beautiful 880, and looks really great next to the 903 Hygiene, and the Pony Tank!! All great machines, as well as the other Royals you posted a while back. Looks like you got a nice set of tools with it, too! So nice of Marty to gift it to you! And yes, vacuums that have been gifted to us or had belonged to a family member are the most treasured ones in our collections.
Hopefully someday I'll have a nice set of red tools to go with my 903, but for now I guess I'll just have to borrow the tools from my wife's 886 Royal.

Morgan-beautiful Royals-that is also one of my favorite cleaners-like Royals becuase they are so similar to Kirbys.I have sevral new ones-and the older ones sometimes turn up at the vac stores out here or the thrift places.also have a few Royal canisters-the new Royal owners were so dumb to discontinue the Royal canisters and "Prince" hand vacuums.Have couple Prince machines too.Got one of my Royals from a Member of Applianceville-trying to remember the name.Truely elegant machines.

Morgan

Glad you like the Royal. It was a rescue from a thrift store here in PS. I seem to find these poor strays and am always happy when i can find homes for them. Have fun with it!
