I couldn't find the thread speculating on the new Kirby design to add this. . . but
I just heard from a friend, that knows a freind, that's friends with someone who heard from their neighbor that the new Kirby will possess a digital motor for the first time.

Anyone else heard tell of this rummor? It would be a great addition to durability, maybe aiding in weight, and I understand quieter too.

That sounds great, I know Dyson has done it, but I've never used one so not sure what a digital motor is like. I hope this Kirby isn't too great, I don't want to want one.... The price is sure to be out of this world! I am SOOOOO glad this wasn't another thread asking if anyone has heard anything yet.... I'm sure the first person to know something will be all too happy to post here and let us know, we won't have to ask!

my heads spinning

Yea I know, but that is about how reliable the intel is too. But it would make some sense that Kirby would move into 21st century technology. To me this was much better news than it going . . gag, gasp, cough--plastic.

New Kirby ?

A friend of mine in Indiana said his Kirby Dealer that he goes to showed him the new Kirby that just came out.Guess what? It is still a Sentria the only difference he said is they went back to the old style headlight like on the Diamond Edition, his dealer said people didn't like the new Led headlight so they went back to the old one. I said good because I don't like the new Led headlight either... So I wonder is this new Sentria just around for about a year till the new redesigned Kirby comes out? Kind of like The Legend II was before the G3.....

Oh and I forgot

if they put a Digital motor in the new Kirby I sure hope it isn't as noisy as the Motor in the Rainbow that came out with that motor in it. ( I know there is a newer model of Rainbow out since then) But my Rainbow E2 series with the first digital motor is the noisest Rainbow I have ever owned. I only have used mine twice and I put it back in the box and it is somewhere out in the Garage.

Sounds like the Kirby Company is taking its time introducing the new model. Maybe because its a radical new design and they want to make sure the engineering is just right? Or maybe they're just waiting for the economy to improve? Also, I've not used a Sentria but is the LED headlight not as bright as the incandescent bulb?

gag, gasp, cough--plastic.

kirby would NEVER call it that, will use the name lexon or something far fetched that sounds hi tec ;-)

Joe & materials for Kirbys...

Hello Joe.

Kirby has been using a polymer for the 'base pan assembly' on the Sentrias for almost two years already.

And it's been used for the Carpet Shampoo System nozzle assembly since November 2003.

FULL DISCLOSURE:

I'm not doing cartwheels because it's no longer an all aluminum body; however, that said, I've seen next to no issues with it for the base pan assembly.

Initially, there was a minor bending or flexing issue with the tension of the belt pulling downward on the nozzle assembly. That was quickly & easily remedied. Since that, I've seen no issues.

Keep in mind there is not yet, 'long-term' evidence [in or with a Kirby] of it's [the material's] dependability.

I would prefer it to be all aluminum; however, as long as the quality is retained, that is my biggest concern.

As the saying goes, "Time will tell."

Cheers & hagd all,

Bill

Hi Bill,

thanks for that info, it's interesting to have some reliable info on the performance of the new base-pan material in the real world. It's a shame the idea of change is such a threat to some people - I wonder how many on the forum would have decried Kirby's eventual switch to disposable bags, several decades after the rest of the industry...

I'm excited about any changes Kirby may have made, and I can't wait to try one of the 'new' new machines out - if and when it finally launches! I just hope it's as ambitious and radically different as the patents suggest... if it's just yet another 'tweaked' G-series variant, I won't have much interest...

Jack...

"...base pan's flexing/bending issue..."

Hello Jack.

The issue was NOT with the base pan, rather the nozzle assembly for the Carpet Shampoo System.

Kirby added a few 'dimples' in the polymer & extended the 'lips/slots' where the tray or fluffer shield fits into.

I was amazed that the 'dimples' were able to strenghten the nozzle. [That's why they pay the engineers the big bucks. ~~lol~~]

Cheers & hagd all,

Bill

how many on the forum would have decried Kirby's eventua

I worked for Kirby when the Tradition was ending it's run, and was told by my distributor that the main reason Kirby waited so long to go disposable was two fold. 1: Their customers liked the shake and empty, no bags to buy Emp-tor system. 2: They were waiting to find a bag material that could handle the Kirby's air-flow without compromising it.
Actually with the single layer paper the Tradition had they were not as successful as they hoped, but they kept on working at it and have a pretty good (if not expensive) bag system.

Same with power drive or Tech-drive. They wanted a system that would be as reliable as their machines themselves.

Going plastic has to be cost saving over weight saving. As my Omega weighs less than my Ultimate G. Then again the Omega doesn't have the Tech Drive that added weight.

Personally...

I do not like the LED light on my Sentria. I would much rather have the regular light like on all of the other G Series'. They seem brighter, and it doesn't seem like the LED does much when you are using it

The thing with the LED light is focusing-Kirby should have so it would focus on the floor rather than just light up.Tech wise-going back to the incandescent bulbs is going BACKWARD!Maybe Kirby should use some Cree LED lights like what is used in many flashlights-this would be an improvement-and would give HIGHER light levels than the incandscent without worries of burnout.
