Greetings. Been a while.
I was in Walmart the other day, and, naturally went through the vac section. I was so surprised to see the little Hoover spot cleaner say "Made in USA" on the box. There's a little note on the box about the folks here making vacs for you. (from globally sourced parts). It was just odd to see it, and sad to see it not read OHIO.

They have a big frontpage on their website about it too: https://www.hoover.com/usa/

It really means it was made overseas with China pride and materials, then all the parts are boxed up, shipped back to the USA, to be assembled in the USA, and then shipped back out again to the retail stores as a complete vacuum.

"Made in the USA with globally sourced components" is just the same thing as "certified pre owned" for car dealers. Just a fancy way of saying that you're getting a used car. In this case, it means Hoover is still making vacuums in China, but instead of paying a 8 year old 5 cents an hour or a fleet or robots to assemble it, they have American workers assembling it. Mainly for quality control purposes.

Maybe Hoover wisened up that a lot of people complained about vacuums not working out of the box due to being mis-wired or not put together right at the factory so they decided to have them assembled here now.

The bottom line is plastic is still going to be plastic no matter where it's made, but it's not a bad thing if you can have properly trained eyes and experienced workers putting the parts together to make sure everything is tested and on the level.

It's something I wouldn't mind doing. My aunt used to work for Oreck in the early 90's doing the same thing. Oh I just now read that the assembly plant is in Cookeville TN, how much you want to bet that's the old Oreck plant?

@huskyvacs

I think you’re absolutely correct about it being the old Oreck assembly plant.

I went to summer camp in Cookeville and I can remember that there wasn’t much there. It was also known once for being the home of Chris Crocker, who gained YouTube fame for his “leave Britney alone” video. I hope for his sake that he moved on. LOL

Apparently Hoover has jumped on board the rechargeable bandwagon. I just hope everyone understands the destructive nature of strip mining, in order to obtain lithium for the batteries. Just an inconvenient truth, I suppose. [this post was last edited: 10/27/2020-21:08]

When TTI/Hoover bought Oreck they announced a few months later that they would start slowly putting some of the unused manufacturing plants to work.
Apparently Oreck was only operating at 1/3 capacity.
Of coursethat would not be acceptable for their investment especially being run by Chinese businessmen at the top.
I'm sure the tariffs have only encouraged them to continue using those U.S. facilities.

Most of Hoover commercial is made out of those factories along with select Oreck products.

Ironically the Chinese have done more for U.S. manufacturing then American vacuum companies. I've been saying this for years I'm not sure why this is now just being brought up?
