It looks almost like the current generation Hoover Elite sold at Wal-Mart. Windtunnel II is just a name. It looks nothing like the original Windtunnel or the Windtunnel II from the mid-2000s.

How exactly are they very different? Other than WT technology on the WT 2, the different brushroll that accompanies WT tech, the larger dust cup, and lack of cord rewind.

i was shown the new models in person and they are different ....i saw the complete line up of the new product from hoover....there likes and similarities come from the fact of our ohio engineering staff and the principles they are adapting to our products...the wal mart elite rewind is asian built and the new windtunnel collection uprights are built here in elpasso and juarez mexico....the one model shown on the hoover site is one of several new uprights...when you see the complete line it will all make sense...if you are all looking for the obama romney debates over nitpicking similarites and features ...your are wasting everyones time...when i said great things are coming ....they are and will become available over the coming months....hoovers rebirth is on its way....the model shown is just a taste of what will be but our new president will blow you away with the power and quality of our new products

The 2 machines look quite a bit different!!!
Ever since the Windtunnel came out, they have changed the size of the 2 Windtunnel channels slightly depending on the machine. The hood design on that Elite looks like the previous red version of Hoover Elite bagless uprights. The agitator in it is a Dirt Devil agitator.
If you enlarge the photo on Windtunnel 2 on the Hoover website you can see that is a completely different hood design not used on any previous Hoover uprights. It has some similar curves but its different!! You can also clearly see that it is a Hoover auger action brush roll inside that cavity of the Windtunnel 2.
Also no offense: But I've seen comments in other threads similar to the one that Director12 posted "Hoover has the curse of reusing parts."
And just when was the last time Aerus Electrolux redesigned their power nozzle???? How many generations of Guardians and Platinums are they gonna use that same boring hood design on and the plastic elbow that breaks at the nozzle connection??
Oreck came out with the XL21 years ago and that same exact design is rebadged as the Forever series and before that was the Pilot with same hood style.
Next how many models of Maximas and PowerPlus's is Eureka gonna keep regurgitating those parts on?
Finally, let's study many peoples favorite the Filter Queen. How old is that suction unit style??? They've changed colors and hose handle but the attachment caddy, carry handle, and general tank design? Hmmm how many units over the past 25 years or so have those been on?
But I guess in my bringing all of this up is expected of me, since for reason I kinda like Hoover products. Something must truly be wrong with me!!! Or maybe all of this is an imagination and Hoover really is the only company out there that borrows similar parts off of previous models simply because maybe its become a proven design that works!!!
I do not work for Hoover or any other vacuum manufacturer or repair shop and never have. It is just my observation from having a passion towards vacuums for over 20 years that many manufacturers seem to keep using a lot of the same parts for brand new models. I did not post anything here to offend anyone in any way but that comment sparked a light bulb in my head.
