New Hoover Platinum Bagless

I took a careful look at the new Hoover Platinum today. Even as a vac collector it is a shocking disappointment in quality. It looks so good on the Web site but in person it looked so cheap. I could not believe the lack of quality on the attachment hose and the dusting brush. The brush was so stiff it SHOULD clean the rug. It would be just like using an SOS pad to clean the paint on a new car. Never,never saw brushes like those on any Hoover. I could not believe they are asking $448.95 for this machine.
It seems like so many machines today depend on a very stiff brush and small screeming motor instead of good design.
Has anyone used this machine?

I have one in my store and I can't give it away. I was told by several reps that Wall Mart is sending back the Platinum machines in wholesale fashion. As a side note, I sell the hell out of the stick and hand vacs.

Has anyone looked at the build of the Platinum bagged upright, I liked the look of it but dont want to pay $398 for something that may be dissapointing.
Anyone tried one of these yet?

New Hoover Platinum Bagless

I am not an Oreck fan but the top of the line Oreck sure had a more quality look. My older Hoover Convertible and 28 actually had nice soft horsehair brushes.
I love my new Stainless Connie but the tools on the Platinum Hoover didn't look one bit better than the tools on my $38.99 Bissell upright from WalMart.
For the money I thought my Hoover Anniversary Windtunnel was a better machine than the Hoover Anniversary Convertible or canister.
As a collector when you get a new machine and it almost looks too cheap to use without breaking you can imagine what will happen in the real world. I was in a very nice vac store this week and when I saw the Hoovers sitting close to the Riccar's I was shocked at the difference. If I paid $38.00 for my Bissell at Walmart I would not have the same expections as if I paid $450.00 for Hoover's top of the line.
Our Walmart stores seem to have changed the display for the Platinium too

Poor Quality

I've never seen the Platinum collection in any of my stores yet; but I wouldn't pay $300+ for cheaply built Chinese s**t. I'd be MUCH BETTER off buying an ANTIQUE vac instead of the new ones. Even a FQ Majestic LE (which I bought new in 1999, Pow-R-Nozzle on the FQ LE kept falling apart) is BETTER than the 80th Anniv. FQ & TriStar MG2.

Handheld

I have the new Platimum Handheld and I really like it, though pricey for that type of machine and I have to say that the linx rechargeable battery charge does not last nearly as long as my previous Hoover Wet/dry hand held that I dropped and broke recently. I do like the crevice tool and brush option and the suction is good for this type machine. Quality is what you would expect for a hand held, but I looked at the larger machines in person and was apalled Let's face it. Hoover, as we knew it, is long gone.

TTI should let Hoover go so Hoover can make their vacs in the US instead of China

Wishful thinking. TTI's got Hoover by the nads. They'll suck every penny they can out of the name, then sell it off when it's no longer profitable to them. As sad as it is, Hoover is dead and gone. They died in the 90's when Maytag bought them.

Maytag bought Hoover in 1987. They were fine until Maytag started losing ground... then they turned the blame to Hoover--and decided to "combine" the two companies, and have it run out of Iowa. There was still a bit of breathing going on--until December... when TTI closed all of the Hoover stores.

Now they're dead.

I saw the "Platinum" at Walmart.

Now, NONE in the store. Lett TTI drown at their new "cleaner". I'm all HOOVER, as you know, but this is just inexcusable.

Here in Tucson

The local Wal-Mart has had the metal stands set up for 3 Platinum models for some time, but the stands are....empty. I wonder if they sent them back, like dsmiler heard???

very expensive when it looks just like the shark that I (excuse me, my husband) has. I do like the one that is like the oreck but just like many other over priced machines I will wait till they show up at the thrift store.
