I've wanted one of these for awhile but wasn't willing to pay around $200 for one. Luckily the liquidation store near us had them on for $60 so why the heck not..

It was easy as pie to put together, 3 screws, fill with solution and water and that was it. It actually did a not bad job dry vacuuming up the dog hair and crumbs etc on the kitchen floor. Then I switched it to wet scrubbing. While it works as claimed I think the Swiffer Wet Jet is a heck of a whole lot easier to mop floors with. Anyways I still like it and will use it. It's not even that badly made, worth the $60 so long as it doesn't break anytime soon. LOL

Pete...

You got a very good price on your Floor Mate. Mine is a little older but the same as yours except for color. I really like mine. I have tile and hard wood floors. It does a great job on both. I have used the swiffer but found them to just push the dirt around or the cloth would come off half way through. I used to use a mop or get down and wash it all by hand. The Floor Mate takes no longer to get out than a bucket and some soap. To clean up, I just rinse everything thoroughly. I put the machine away on "DRY PICKUP" setting. I put the clean water tank with the lid on loose in my former floor washing bucket. I put the bottom of the dirty container in there too. Then I place the cap of the dirty container in the bucket too. I NEVER put the tanks on the cleaner. I use it maybe 3-4 times a month. I should use it more. Everytime I take it out, it is dry and ready to use. I keep the soap on the shelf above the machine and I am in business. I wish though that it had more aggressive brushes. I do like how it dries the floor. Overall, I think it cleans very well. Maybe yours will grow on you as time goes on.

Tom, I was thinking that the brushes weren't that agressive as well. I noticed the warning sticker says not to use any pine based cleaners "pine sols etc" or solvent based.. do you only the Hoover recommeneded stuff or something else?

Pete I would say that you were very lucky to get the Floormate for that price!! I wish that we had a place like that near here. I have heard the same thing about the brushes before. Was also told by a friend that they do a great job but you just have to do the floor before it gets to dirty.

Floor Mate,

Tom, I have to agree, I love my floor mate. Mine is the newer model that the handle folds down on. It also has the above the floor tools for those hard to reach places and stairs.

I purchased mine at Best Buy on clearence. It was normally almost $200.00 and I got this one for 89.00.

My only complaint is that the water tank is to small. They could really improve on that. I guess now that I think of it the above the floor tools are almost useless. The hose won't stay connected to the machine. I have tried just about everything short of duct tape...LOL

Overall I love the machine.

Yes...I only use Hoover soap. So far after the 3 or 4 years that I have had it, no problems. (knocking on wood) I am happy to have the base model as all of the hoses and tools would never get used. The machine is useless around the toilet and other small spaces, but those spaces are easily done by hand. Like Terry said, just use it often before the surface gets too dirty. The main thing is you have to leave the wet tanks off of the machine or the moisture ruins the bottom motor bearing. Once the bearing goes bad (I have seen a few), then the thing howls and screeches like a creature from a really bad "B" horror movie!

I have to say I went half on a floor mate that my daughter wanted and uses every week on her wood kitchen and entry hall. It is now 4 years and I replaced the squeegy on it. Other wise it works fine with a little cleaning out now and again. Cat hair (2) and 2 childern plus 3 or 4 day care kids. It get a work out and has done great!

Hoover Floor Mate

I got a like new one at the thrift store and it has served me well. I only use the Hoover cleaning solution but it's fairly cheap and works well.

I think you will end up really enjoying it. :-)

I've used it a couple of times now. The instructions say you can use other cleaners, specifically mentioned Olde English and Lysol I think.. so I bought some Lysol floor cleaner but I haven't tried that yet. It's still not as fast as using the Swiffer Wet Jet mop though.
