Well, in November we finally bid the 15 year old carpets goodbye. The before pictures don't do how bad the carpets were justice. The floors we put in are an engineered vinyl plank flooring with a lifetime waterproof and scratchproof warranty.

Since I do all the vacuuming (don't know how my parents will manage when I go to collage) this has been a big change. I have a much smaller need for all of my uprights. Now, only the master bedroom, dining room rug, and mat by the back door need frequent vacuuming. The rest is either tile or the new vinyl.

What floors do you have in your home?

Nice floors, Scott!

The enty hall here is marble and parquet. The livingroom, library, and family room and diningroom are hardwood. The kitchen is parquet and ceramic tile. The 3 season room will have ceramic tile with an area rug. All of the rooms w/ hardwood have Oriental rugs on them. The 2 bathrooms are ceramic tile. 2 bedrooms are parquet, one other will be hardwood, another is Karastan wall to wall. The staircase and "T" hall are carpeted. The back staircase will be recovered when the "gallery" is finished.
There are loads of reasons for using many appliances. Thank goodness for all of the HOOVERS.

Your floors will look sharp for years and years. Enjoy them.
John

Thanks, Scott

When I was younger, all of the wood would be paste waxed and buffed w/ one of the HOOVER polishers. Now that they've all been refinished, you really don't need to do that anymore. I love the way all of the floors came out here.
I have very fond memories of being in your home during The Rainbow Roundup. That's a great house too. Mine is 140 yrs old.. a totally different style.

in my house

in my house we have, in the entry way, living room and dining room have cherry hard wood flooring with some rugs to compliment it. then in the kitchen we have some kind of Italian stone floor. then through the TV room and into the great room we have carpeting.

Nice floors Scott

Although I have always preferred wall to wall carpet I house has a lot of hard floors. I actually am starting to prefer the wood floors with large area rugs as you can change things up and get a new look rather easily. You can also send the rugs away for cleaning rather than having them cleaned inside the house.I am not a big fan of tiles though although we have allot of them. IN SA most of your houses are tiled or now engineered flooring

I am glad that these floors are virtually maintenance free, it is hard for me to imagine how much work it is to keep real wood floors looking nice.

Orecklover, I really like the stone in your kitchen, and your wood floors are beutiful!

Gareth, When my parents first started thiking about putting these floors down I was first in favor of carpet, but now i'm not sure I even want there to be a rug in the living room at all. I agree that rugs are easier to maintain for the reason you point out. We also have alot of tile in and around the kitchen and in all the bathrooms, it is a nightmare to keep clean! Especially the grout!
