New Dyson DC41

I figured I'd post some pics of my DC41, since I'm sure some of you are very interested in it.

This is definitely several steps forward for the Dyson Ball, since with the DC41 you have a 35 foot cord once again (DC15 - 35' cord, DC25 - 25' cord, DC41 - 35' cord), more double the debris capacity (DC25 - .20 gal, DC41 .50 gal), a redesigned cyclone system with a filter screen instead of a shroud and more cyclones, as well as a much improved cleaning head.

Active base plate

The base plate adapts to the height of the surface you are cleaning, and it actually maintains a tight seal at all times. Think of the suction hopper on a street sweeper...

Unique Brush roll....

As far as I know, this is the only double helix brush roll that has two distinct rows of bristles: one row of short bristles complementing one row of tall bristles. This brush roll definitely cleans and grooms the carpet well; you can hear and fell this thing beat the carpet without pulling up excess carpet fibers.

I also like to note that the cleaning head is secured with a separate U-clip like the DC24, and that the brush roll is no longer held in place by removable end-caps [instead, each end of the brush roll is secured in place by two screws]; this eliminates the vibration noise that plaques a great number of DC25's out there that had ill-fitting brush rolls.

Integrated ducting, Independent hemispheres

In a way, this is kind of like a DC18 steering mechanism on steroids, without the roller at the base; the machine rides on those two free-spining hemispheres.

Inside the Ball.

Each hemisphere rides on two ball bearings: one at the axle, and one at the bottom of the base to ensure a frictionless glide.

I like how the HEPA filter twists on to secure rather than snap in place. I've seen countless DC25's with noise issues because air would bleed between the motor and the rubber gasket on the HEPA cartridge. Because of the tight, twist on nature of the DC41 exhaust filter, noise will not be an issue.

Through the center

All of the airflow is directed to the center, hence the name "Radial Root Cyclone".

Note the increased number of high-efficiency cyclones. DC41 as twelve, DC25 has five.

Other changes.

A few other things worth noting:

- The handle of the machine no longer separates with the telescopic want.

- The dusting brush has longer, softer bristles for broader cleaning coverage.

- Dyson finally went back to using rounded airways as seen on older units such as the DC04 and DC07. I recall that they made it a feature they talked about in their brochures: efficient bottleneck-free airways. They had since steered away from that feature, but now they brought it back.

- The DC41 is rated at 235 air watts, where as the DC25 is rated at 220.

- The clear bin capacity is .55 gallons (not the .50 I stated earlier).

Also, note the clear access hatch for removing any airway obstruction inside the ball.

Also....

Just incase you were wondering, the HEPA side hemisphere screws on and off by twisting the big purple hub at the center of the hemisphere. It ratchets once it hits proper torque in order to prevent stripping.

Also, the kickstand is pressure sensitive; there is no longer a red pedal.

New Dyson DC41

Thanks for posting the pictures of the new Dyson DC41. Looks like they have made some nice improvments. It looks good. I am a little shy about Dysons because several of mine damaged carpets with a way too aggressive brush roll.
I do love all the features and changes and the Dyson attachments. I just don't like messing with the flying dust from dumping the bin. Thanks again for the great shots. Keep us posted.

New Dyson dc41

I forgot to ask:
(1) how is the noise level?
(2) are there any improvements with the hose use? I always had trouble with the hose pulling the machine over from the powerful suction with my Dyson upright
(3) will the other Dyson suction tools fit on the DC41's hose end?

The noise level is just about the same -- with the exception of the added low tone growl from the revised brush roll. You can hear and feel the longer bristles at work.

Using the hose on the DC41 will feel no different than with any other current generation Dyson. However, disengaging the wand no longer require force to unhitch the handle from the machine -- the handle is now permanently attached to the machine. You simply pull up on the upper cord hook, and the wand simply slides out. Replacing the wand back onto the machine requires a little more attention though: you need to be mindful to align the tabs on the wand with the slots on the machine.

As for the attachment, all of the current generation Dyson "snap-on" tools will work with the DC41.
