As promised, here are some photos of my latest arrivals. First, we'll start with the Kirby Classic I got from Scott Miller.

Next is the Royal Commercial model 1028Z that Jim Barnhart gave me for my birthday, which was July 12. It's the first true Commercial vacuum in my collection, as well as the first vacuum I've ever received as a birthday gift!

Here's my own little piece of the Hoover vault, a Hoover sprayer. Yes, they made a sprayer! Originally sold with the Aerodynes, they were also offered as an option with the first models of the Constellation. Sorry the vault tag didn't show well in the pic. It has a 1960 date on it.

Some of you may remember hearing about my Kirby 512 that a neighbor gave me that just had the power unit, handle (with the brushroll taped to it, and the bag. Here are before and after pics.

Same vacuum, with the attachments. Cant tell from the photo, but the attachments are in like new condition, and when they arrived they appeared to have never been used!

And here's my Kirby D-50 that Norm Brown gave me last fall. A new bag, front bearing plate, light, and a clean & polish job yielded good results. Here are before and after pics.

And last but not least, is the Hoover Constellation model 82 that belonged to my Grandmother. My Grandfather bought it for her in 1955 as gift for their last Anniversary before he passed away, so it will always be a special part of my collection.

Joe, you have done a great job on those Kirby's. What do you use to polish them?

GREAT JOB JEFF !

I have seen these vacuums in person and the pictures do not do them justice. They are wonderfully restored and the hand polish job is totally awesome !!! I could never compete with his hand polishing work. Unfortunately :-(. Since I won't be able to attend the convention, I give you all of my fun, interesting and great times to have Jeff !!

New Arrival photos

Jeff,
Thanks for sharing the pictures and story about the Constellation. That would have been considered a NICE Anniversary present in those days. Can you imagine a guy giving his wife a vacuum today for a present and not even a expensive Kirby or Rainbow but a big box store run of the mill cheap Hoover! Times have changed! Thanks again for sharing with us. Love seeing those wonderful old machines.
Rob

Jeff, you have done more then justice on the restortation of that D-50. I just did not have it in me to work that hard
on restoring it. I knew it would have a great and wonderfully
caring home with you and Jr. All your work is very good.
Yes, the Kirby is a D-50. All the boxes are tan and the trim
on the cleaner is tan. I like what you did for the 512, too.
Then to get the almost new attachments. I really want to try
out you Hoover 82. Just to use the carpet tool.
Thanks for sharing.
Norm

Thank You!!

First I want to say thank you to you all for your compliments. Seems like the more restoration work I do on these vacuums the more I enjoy it. And in clarification, only the Kirby Classic, the Royal Commercial, and the Hoover Sprayer are new arrivals. I got my Grandma's Connie when my Mother moved from her house to an apartment almost 10 years ago, my neighbor gave me the Kirby 512 last May, and Norm Brown gave me the D-50 last September (Thanks again, Norm!), when he moved from his house to an apartment. Sorry the pics of the D-50 were a little dark, they were the last ones I took that day and the sun was starting to set.
Michael, thank you for the compliment and the birthday wish, but trust me, my D-50 doesn't hold a candle to yours!! Looking forward to seeing you again at the Convention!
Charles and Terry, yes, that was hand polishing. I used Mother's Mag with terry cloth towels and occasionally a little VERY FINE steel wool ONLY WHEN NEEDED for the stubborn spots.
Rob and Alan, glad you enjoyed the Connie photos and story. It's interesting too, that back when Grandpa bought the Connie for Grandma, there wasn't as big of a price difference between Hoovers and Kirbys as there is now, and the Hoover salesman came to the house to show it to them! And Rob, it was great meeting you in February, hope to see you again at the Convention!
Jim, Thank You again for the Commercial Royal. As I've already been working on it, it will look a bit different next time you see it.
Norm, Thanks again for the D-50. Notonly did I enjoy restoring it, but it seems the whole family enjoys using it!! Lena seldom uses her 886 Royal anymore, she either grabs the D-50 or the Electro-Hygiene 903. I'm pretty sure the grip on the 512 is original, it matches the bumpers on the light and the nozzle. And yes, you WILL get to try out the 82--that's the one you will be using in your display!!
And again, THANKS everyone, for your compliments. You've made my day!!
Jeff
