Wilson, If you have the original bill of sale and the paperwork in the husband's name, I would contact Filter Queen in America, explain the situation to them and see if they have a headquarters in Australia that can help you out and honor the warranty. I also found through a Google search what appears to be Filter Queen Australia's contact info: 164 Stoney Creek Rd. Floor 1, Bexley New South Wales 2207. Their phone number is (02) 9554 4400. If Filter Queen America refuses to help, perhaps they may be able to assist.

I also found what appears to be a Filter Queen refurbishing company in Australia. Whether they are affiliated with the manufacturer or not is unclear. Depending on your comfort level with repairs, if this company can get a 4 wire Ametek motor to replace or they can rebuild the original motor, this might be a nice option for you.
One thing you might also want to check is if the motor is TRULY DEAD. Did you take the carbon brushes out and check them? Is there excessive red arcing from the armature when the vacuum is on? If so, it's dead or close to it. If the arcing is blue and not too much, then the motor can likely be saved with a new set of carbon brushes and a armature seating stone. This is actually pretty simple to do. Take the brushes out and check the length. While you're at it, turn the armature by hand. If it spins smoothly, proceed. But if there's any roughness at all, forget about it, it means the one of the bearings is gone. I located what appears to be the correct carbon brushes for that motor, and also a armature seating stone.

As a last resort, if you can't fix the motor and you can't get any help from that refurbisher, Filter Queen America or Filter Queen Australia, you can replace the motor with a Numatic Hetty HVR200 motor. It's a double stage Ametek motor very similar to the Filter Queen motor but with slightly higher waterlift and airflow. Now, this is only a single speed motor though, so you will have to bypass the HI - LOW switch on the side. You can wire it up like a single speed Canadian brown Filter Queen Model 700 or a TriStar CXL. Included is a link to the motor and also a link to a post I made years ago that has the TriStar single speed double stage motor wiring diagram. Follow this and wire it up exactly like I noted in the Filter Queen and it will work in ANY brand that uses a single speed motor with no circuit board.
