My project is complete. I made a brand new dust indicator and I have to say I'm very
pleased with the results. I had purchased a donor AirWay just for the unbroken
indicator. The donor is nice and runs perfectly so I was still in need of an
indicator. Picture #1 are the broken pieces from my original vacuum. Picture #2
is the basic art work my wife put together by taking my picture of an indicator and enhancing it quite a bit. We added the background color but ended up making it clear. Picture #3 shows the original retaining ring on the right and the smaller
12 gauge ring I made to fit the dome shaped glass I purchased. Picture #4 shows the indicator fixture after I cleaned it up by very lightly sandblasting it and following up with steel wool. Picture #5 shows the finished glass insert. I transferred the decal to the back of the glass and sprayed it with translucent glass paint. Picture #5 is the entire unit ready to be installed on the vacuum.
The glass can be purchased from Norkro.com and is item # 70-703-13. It's a perfect fit. The paint is Krylon canary yellow for stained glass and Krylon lemon sea glass. I used both to achieve the desired color.
If you would like a decal, email me and I'll send one out. If enough people are
interested, I have enough supplies, except for the glass, to make about 20 more.
I would only charge my cost.
If I were greedy, I'd put them on eBay for $ 50.
I wish Airway would have made it out of glass in the first place.....
