Years before I became a collecter I saw an Air-Way 55a and wanted to have one some day. I recently bought this one on e-bay and have been cleaning it polishing it. Yesterday I found this 88 Mk II at the Goodwill Outlet store. It was complete except for the tool caddy that I hope to find in the future. I wasn't really interested in an 88 but this was in such good condition. It is rare to find something this complete at the outlet store so I could't pass it up. After cleaning it up I was amazed at what a well built and powerful machine this is! If anyone has any idea's for its caddy let me know. The 55a would have been enough. I wasn't trying to start a collection, but we know how that goes!

Yup...

that's how it goes. An Airway I would think an unusual find in a thrift store, especially complete. Is the hose still air tight? I couldn't imagine the average housewife picking that 55a and moving it all around the house. These were great vacs of their time, and if you think the Mark II is powerful now, an upgrade to a high performance 2-stage motor turns it into a powerhouse! I was fortunate a few years ago to have two experts replace the motor on mine with a new one at the Milwaukee convention, and it will suck the chrome off a trailer hitch! Watch ebay for a tool caddy and also one of our supporting members here Airwaylady(Tania Voight) is an Airway guru. You might want to check with her, you never know.

Hey Mike! Nice Air-Ways! I'll try to get down in the shop today and see for sure, but I may have an extra caddy for that 88. If I do, it's yours for shipping costs. I'll let you know ASAP, Toby G.

There was approximately 12 years difference in age between the 55 and the 88. Look at the huge leap forward the 88 represented. The 55 had a 9 foot hose originally which meant you didn't move the machine while cleaning a room. Just stand it in the middle of the room and clean in a circle. Congrats on two very nice machines.
