Never seen a Hoover polisher like this.

Hi Ian, it's my guess that this was the matching polisher to the U.S. model 65 Convertible, colors are right anyway. I have one like this only in blue which would've matched the convertible a couple of models later.

Ian...

This was a match to the 67 Convertible and came out in 1960. I talked to the guy that worked on the design. It would have been out sooner but they had lots of teething troubles when they tried to produce the plastic tank. Remember that plastic was still relatively new. Later they changed the base of the polisher and even added a speed control on the handle. This polisher was the top of the line at the time.

Ah yeah, how was it different to the more mainstream "domed base" polishers? or was it just a aesthetic spruce up?

Is anyone collecting these and the standard Hoover polishers because I've seen a couple around here lately. One very nice condition limey green one and a yellow older metal one.

Ian...

I think that those polishers just needed a new look to them. They used the same motors I think anyway. They changed them in the later 60s with a new shape all over again. They began producing them in Canada for the US in 1950. I am not sure if they are still around or not. How many people still use them? I use my Floormate for cleaning my hardwood and tile floors.

Hi Ian,

This type of shampoo polisher was never sold over here - we jumped from the 0212A to the 5134/5464 (domed type), which I think came out in 1962.

Same with Seniors/Convertibles really - the USA had loads of different hood designs, but we only really had two (if you don't count the U4003!).

Hi guys
what a lovely machine looks good enough to eat like a 60s blancmange rabbit!!! remember? very typical colour scheme of that time part of the effort to phase out the i suppose sinister war years type colours vacs etc came in ,browns black bronze grey etc. pastel pinks blues yellows took over. I do remember the sort of standard Hoover polisher in green and white when i was little .It used to stand in the window of our local ironmongers in our village with a "for hire" sign hanging round its neck!!!! memories ay?!!!!!
