Need Help With My Simplicity Moxie

Got a used Moxie, for a super price, and so far I like it. It is a good, capable vacuum. It has nice features (handle controls) and good suction, quiet too.

Now, while the canister is nice and quiet, the PN is a little loud. I thought I read here that you can change either the brushroll or brush strips for other parts that will make the PN a little more quiet. Is this true? The only other annoyance is when you turn it on from the handle it always starts at full suction. Any way to get it to remember the suction level you were at last time? Also, any place to get Simplicity parts for less, because man are they expensive on the parts sites I have seen. A new hose is $200 or more. Thinking about getting another hose assembly because even though the buttons work fine, the membrane is cracked on the on/off button and at some point I might have to replace it.

If the powernozzle sounds like this, then there's nothing wrong with it. If it sounds louder or noisier, then it would need to get serviced.



You don't have to buy a new hose, you can have parts replaced on the handle and you would save yourself a ton. Tom (dysonman1) could get you parts for a better deal.

Thanks I have seen that video and my PN sounds just like that one. I thought I read that the another brushroll maybe a wooden one will change the overall loudness of the nozzle.

Also, I thought I read here that the hose/handle is one assembly and comes that way only. If you happen to know how to separate them please let me know.

I don't think Tacony ever made a wooden brushroll for these type of powernozzles. Besides I don't think it would make a difference on either sound or performance. I've used both the Simplicity Entry (With a wooden brushroll) and the Classic (With a metal brushroll) before and they all sound and perform about the same to me.

Nah, I've repaired these vacuums before and you can get separate parts for the hose. The picture form www.partswarehouse.com shows what comes apart and what can be replaced.

Great, good to know with the handle. Just have trouble getting it apart especially the round cap cover at the hose that hold it all together.

Mike - Back when Tacony started using this powerhead, starting with the Simplicity S24 & Riccar 1500P, this powerhead did have a wood brushroll with plastic endcaps. However, the problem with that brushroll is that, even when cared for, the plastic endcaps would warp & melt, & destroy the base along with it. Also, the plastic piece on the brushroll that the v belt went around to turn the brushroll would start to separate & would cause damage to the v belt itself too. And as for it being less noisy? No, actually about the same. I have a Riccar Pizzazz that came with both the small & full size powerheads that originally had a wood brushroll & the whole thing had to be rebuilt. I think you would be best off sticking with your metal brushroll & living with the noise the way it is, it's just the way these powerheads sound, same as Aerus Electrolux powerheads sound a certain way.

The PN is not too loud but is not quiet enough for late night vacuuming either. I also just wish the vacuum would start where you left off as far as suction too, but it always starts at full suction. Oh and the light is a little dim. I will change the bulb to see if that makes a difference. It does clean well, has cool features and the nice long hose is welcome too. Seeing as I got this nice working Moxie for $150 shipped, whom am I to complain?

One or question. I bought another used hose assembly in great shape. It looks like the exact same hose as the one I have already, but it doesn't work. Not sure if that's because it is a bad hose or whether they made different hoses to work with different TOL Simplicity's. Like an S36/S38, hose not working with the Moxie. Is that the case?

3 Strip Brushroll

Got a 3 strip brushroll for my Moxie. It is much improved over the 2 strip brushroll that was in there. The bristles in the 2 strip were still in good shape, but I wanted to see in the 3 strip brushroll would improve the power nozzle and it did. It is more quiet. It does seem like Tacony improved the brushroll since they included a note stating that were problems in the past and they have now improved the brushrolls. Also, despite the bristles being a little softer my carpet is groomed a little more. So far, I can say it was definitely a good upgrade.

I can't believe you found that power nozzle "loud." lol

It's ever so much better than before... A few years back they made a terrifying buzz sound that sounded like a Weed Eater. Now they are much quieter. I demonstrated a Riccar in the store a while back and I honestly could find little difference in noise level between theirs and Miele's power nozzle.

Power Nozzles

I have several power nozzles here right now. Here is how they rank from quietest to loudest.

1) Miele SEB 236
2) Sebo ET-1
3) Miele SEB 228
4) Simplicity SPB226

I have lived with all of these PN's several months now and the only one I consider to be stealth is the SEB 236. I can use that one at 2:00 AM and my wife will not know I am vacuuming. The Simplicity bordered on obnoxious before the new brushroll, but now it is more quiet but still the loudest by a small margin. It does seem to have the best agitation though.

I guess the reason I'm shocked is I didn't see much difference in the store. The Miele I looked at had the 236 with the headlight. I suppose it could sound different at home. I didn't find it bad at all. Do you know what year yours was made? I think Tacony must've improved them since then.

What turned me off more than anything about the Miele was that you couldn't park the power nozzle on the machine's parking slot! Ridiculous.

At home you can hear the differences a bit better on normal carpet. My SEB 236 is from 2015. Some of the older ones can squeak and a bad brushroll does sometimes cause vibrations. I have lubricated my 236 so the brush runs smooth and the wheels do not squeak at all. When there are no squeaks or rattles, I have found the 236 is the most quiet of the nozzles I have had.

No, you cannot park the 236 on the canister. You can park the Moxie PN, but it will not power it down.
