Need help with my Kirby D50

When I was restoring my D50 a few month's back, I ordered and installed a new wooden brush roll with a single row brush. I had a couple of spare belts from my Kirby Sentria hanging around, so I used one of those when i installed the new brush in the D50. Now, when I use my D50, there is a squeaking noise coming from the brush roll. So, I have the following questions:


 


1. Is it OK to use the G series belts on the D50?


2. If not, is it possible I may have damaged my D50 brush roll?


3. If it is not OK to use the G series belts, then what is the part number for the correct D50 belt?


4. What is the part number for the 4 row brush roll if I should decide to use that instead?

I can't help with part numbers, but you should NOT use modern belts in any Kirby prior to the Classic, and even then you should be using a ball-bearing brush.

We discussed this at the convention...

... And we came to the conclusion that it is OK to use a knurled belt only if you have a ball bearing brushroll.

Yes, the older style belt is recommended for the pre-1970 machines. It is available under part no. 159056.

So I need part numbers for new belts and  for ball bearing brush rolls for the D50. Ben are you out there? I need help.

Part no. 1525 for new 13" ball bearing brush roll.

Part no. 301291G for 3 new knurled belts.

Or, you can get the rarer 500505 13" double-bristle brush roll... but make sure your Kirby parts supplier is one that orders from Steel City Vacuum, as mentioned in the last post in this thread:

It is perfectly acceptable to use the knurled belt if the brush roll is a newer ball bearing version. The quickest way to tell which you have is to remove the brush roll and spin one of the ends. If both ends spin in unison, then it is an older brush roll with sleeve bearings. In that case, use the older soft belt.

Squeaking can be for a variety of reasons. It may be a wheel too.
