Need Help With Kirby Bag Troubles!

If u have seen my thread i am currently restoring my Kirby Generation 3. I have polished the metal and doen my best to clean the plastic parts and it looks good,but i want to take the bag off and wash it. How do you get the little Zip Tie Thing off of the Mini Emptor so I can thoroughly give it a good scrub. All Help would be appreciated.

Tie thing

don't try and get the tie off. they break easy. for my g4 i kept the emptor and the whole thing on, put hot water with Dawn in the tub, swished it around good, let it soak, and i kept repeating the process. then i let it hang outside because it was nice out. dried in about 4 hours. hope this works!

Well that would be nice,but

This is a G3 so therefore the bag is white and its stained BAD!!!. I got this out of a barn at a estate sale 4 free and it was a complete system. I got the manual,attachments and the Rug Renovator,but i didn't find the Video Tape. So it works and i got the metal shining like new. So id like to scrub the H@!! out of that bag and that big dang tube gets in the way.

Tie Thing

You can actually buy the bag tie at your local Kirby store. They sell them as I have had to buy a few. They are actually included when you purchase a new cloth bag. However, I know you can get them by themselves. They may have to order the one for the G3 because of the light color but it might share the same color as the diamond edition so they might have it there in stock but you can get them.

Forgot to answer your original question. You have to cut the zip tie off with a knife or a pair of scissors. They were not designed to be taken off and reapplied but to be replaced with a new one.......hence my previous answer.

Don't cut that strap!

Hey, I just wanted to let you know you can get that strap off without ruining it. I have taken many a G series bag off to wash it and have not broken a strap yet. The only reason to replace one is if the strap itself is stained or discolored. My secret is to take a hair dryer and heat up the area where the strap is held together. The heat will soften the plastic a bit and then you can take a screwdriver and push the strap out of the clasp. Then, to reinstall, you can just push the strap back together, it might be a bit hard, but it will go back on and you'll never be able to tell you took it off. I hope that all made sense. I learned that trick from a Kirby dealer by the way.

Im gonna try that. Im real close to finishing the thing up. It look so good. I used it today and it cleaned so so SO well. Not bad for a Kirby who spent Years in a Barn Loft! The G3 Is my favorite Machine.

you can take it off, I have trouble with it but I roll the rubber bottom of the bag with the strap still on until it all comes off of the miniempotor and then when I can twist the strap some it comes apart. When i wash my bag I spray it with OxyClean laundry Spray and wash it with laundry soap and some 20 Mule team Borax(that is a laundry booster) and wash in warm water with a cold rinse. My bag comes clean very nicely, but I have a G6 and the bag is my favorite color combo of black and gold. You may have a harder time getting yours clean. ONE THING NEVER EVER PUT YOUR BAG IN THE DRYER, LINE DRY IT OR IT WILL SHRINK.
