Need help with finding a new handheld vacuum!

My aunt is looking for a new hand vac. I would have given her back the Dirt Devil she gave me a while ago, but it is not the right vacuum for her. She wants it to be cordless. I'd like to keep it under $200 as well. She has 2 Siberian Huskies, so it MUST be good for pet hair. It would be best if it had an extension wand as well. She is a very busy person who needs a quick picker upper for her dogs and her autistic son. I'm not sure if cordless will fit the bill in this case, but I'd like to hear other's thoughts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. - Mitchell

I bet Shark has some decent cordless handhelds. Hoover, you could try the Platinum Collection cordless hand vac.

"Platinum" as well. That's on my "list" as well.

The Dyson is the only one that I think meets her wants, I don't trust anything from Euro-Pro, and their parts availability is almost none.

Consumer Reports has top-rated the Shark Pet-Perfect II SV780. Here's a summary of their test results:

"Impressive surface cleaning on carpets, with even better performance with bare floors and edges, are chief strengths of this 18-volt hand vac from Shark. The battery-powered model was also adept at picking up pet hair. It is the only recommended hand vacuum that keeps its emissions low. Helpful features include a replaceable battery, a fairly spacious dust bin, and an electric rotating brush that adapts for vertical surfaces. The vacuum also can stand on its wall-mountable charging base for easy placement on a counter. (Tools are stored on the base.) Two caveats: This model was only so-so for noise. And while you must avoid overcharging, there's no full-charge indicator. The nickel-cadmium battery takes 16 hours to charge after the roughly 19-minute run time."

Ok, I'm going to suggest the Hoover Platinum.

I will also suggest a Dyson, but I'll start with the Hoover. It's going to be a second vacuum.

I bought a Shark with a motorized head attachment. I believe it is called Pet Perfect or Pet Smart, I can't remember right off my head at the moment. It has VERY powerful suction and the motorized head makes quick work of pet hair. It comes with a crevice attachment also. However, it does have a major issue. The battery life is quite short. You will run down a charge just vacuuming the couch and chairs. It's all it can do to complete a few tasks. It also takes pretty much all day to charge. You're looking at several hours at least. Otherwise, I love it. It has a robust washable filter and the brush roll is easily tangled with hair but is easy to remove. Overall, I'd give it a B-. It would be an A+ if it had longer battery life. The next one I buy will likely be a Dirt Devil as it has long battery life according to many reviews.

About Dirt Devils...

The lady at the vacuum store told me to stay away from Dirt Devils, because they are hard to work on and they aren't quality machines. Proof was that she got a Dirt Devil upright in citing lots of noise.

If you do like them, I respect your opinion. I myself would rather have a Dirt Devil prior to TTi buying them out.
