This almost perfect Celebrity III "Deluxe" recently came to me looking for a place to call home. Since its next stop was the nearest second-hand store donation bin, I gladly agreed to take it in and welcome it to the family. Here's my question: Can any of you Hoover experts tell me if this one has a replaceable exhaust filter/muffler of some kind. If so, how do I get to it? The lady I got it from said she tried to replace the filter on the bottom before she decided to get rid of it. I looked it over when i got it home and couldn't find anything that looked like a filter or filter housing on the top or bottom of the machine.  I dissmissed it as "crazy old lady doesn't know what she's talking about". Then I turned it on. From the bottom of the machine came a mess of little bits of old, dried out foam. So, where is this foam comming from? Is it replaceable? how do I get to it?

There should be a filter that goes around those grill holes in picture 3, I'll say it crumbled over time!

NICE hoover!Great colors!
As above there was a filter in the bag compartment around the top edge of motor housing.I have seen them crumble from age sealed in the original package. You might want to make one from foam material such as used on front of window air conditioners.
But the main problem is the foam on top of the round 'tray' the the wheels mount on.This was mostly for sound insulation. The tray drops down after removing nut inside bag chamber from bolts on tray(with vac UNPLUGGED!)You may have to loosen motor covers phillips screws to find nuts. The worn foam should be removed and you could replace ,or not as you choose, with similar material using remaining pieces as pattern.
Happy Hoovering!

Man that thing is clean! Nice find.

I haven't taken apart a used vacuum yet where the original owner replaced the filters. Most of the time the filter the vacuum was delivered with is crumbled on the bottom of the motor compartment somewhere or pieces are inside the motor between the fields and the armature. Yours looks absolutely spotless inside.

Progress made!

Well, I got it apart and y'all are correct. As far as the pre-motor filter, if there was one there originally, it's long gone. The inside of the motor is near spotless. No little bits of left-over foam to be found. As for the exhaust filter in the wheel tray, what was left is to far gone to be of any use. So, now, let's see if these filters are still available, or am I going to be fabricating new ones.

I used them on my hoover portable & slimline. I can keep an eye on them & they're easy to take out & dust off if they need. It still amazes me how they have stood the test of time & still chugging along!!!

Now you're singing my song -- "Taking Things Apart -- Just for Fun!" I love the Hoover Celebrity, especially with the Quadraflex Power Nozzle! Very nice find!
