I recently purchased a very incomplete Air-Way model 35 Chief and I need help bringing it back to its former glory.

Based on the pictures, I can tell that the machine is missing:
Handle
Switch
Cord
Brushroll
Bag
Side Cover for Belt

Am I missing anything else?

Does anyone have any of these parts? If not, do you know what kind of brushroll has a similar width and could be modified to fit the machine? I may be able to 3D print adapters to make it fit.

Also, if you own an Air-Way Chief, can you take a picture of the underside of the cleaner and the brushroll ends?

Thanks.

The

Caps will lock into the end of the grooves. The end caps on brush rolls will never usually spin. They stabilize the brush roll. Imagine hitting a rock the brush roll would come undone and cause havoc.

I do not know is this might be of any use to you vacuumman?

I have no idea of why I remembered where this brushroll was. It is 11-3/4", this just the round aluminum and 12-3/8" from end to end where I believe the bearing caps would go that are missing. Check all pictures closely and you might ask Tom - dysonman1 or one of the other Pros on Air-Way.
I am in Los Angeles and my email address is on my member profile.
Good luck, Peter

I pulled out all my extra pieces to the airway chief. These were cleaned and buffed 20 years ago and have been sitting in storage since. I know I have the brush roll and bearings in a different box.

Yes, the cord has the power switch attached to it. I have a HUGE box of very vintage brush rolls going back to the 1912 Hoover Senior. It's heavy, and on a shelf, so I'll need one of my friends to help me get it down. I'm sure the brush roller for my air-way that's in pieces (those pieces were buffed) is in there. I'll show you what the bearing/brush holders looked like.

Bearings

I was able to attach the brushroll using two of the Flanged Sleeve Bearing with 1/4 in Inside Dia. and 3/8 in Outside Dia. from Grainger. The fit is not exact and there is more vibration than I like, but the brushroll does turn decently. A Hoover Quadraflex belt fits fine. Now all I need to do is get a handle, cord, and bag.

I have a spare handle and bag. I would just use a black cord for your cord… bonus points for using a woven wrapped one.
