Not strictly related but I got an Ash vacuum for our open fire and it was useless clogged constantly and very noisy and very messy to clean the large pleated filter. I was about to take the Shark liftaway to the local recycling centre as I was bored with it but just thought I would try it for the ash and it's working a charm just using the liftaway bit I'm amazed its maintaining its suction and this is after two weeks of usage! Industrial use

No idea on the Hitachi's specs, but would suggest when using ANY vac for that sort of purpose, fit an intermediary bin to catch most of the dust, and run the machine from a slightly reduced voltage. Best of luck!! :-)

All best

You might want to check into a device that is just like mentioned in DaveTranter's post-This would be an example-The Dust Deputy--This is used a lot for collecting dust in demolition jobs, floor sanding and so on they have a website. They don't have vacuums-Their Dust Deputy device is a cyclone that fits atop a container that collects most of the dust and debris before the host vacuum the Deputy is connected to clogs up.The Dust Deputy is used on floor sanding machines-used in place of the sander bag-the actual vacuum machine is located outdoors or in the contractors truck.

Another thought about using vacuums as dust collectors-this is more severe duty than standard surface vacuuming-the dust collector machine has to run on a contious basis. Most vacuum motors aren't rated for that type of duty-unless the vac maker says its OK.Most stationary shop dust collector systems use totally sealed fan cooled induction motors-to avoid dust fires or explosions. If you are using the collector with a woodworking machine-as in a CNC router-best to get a woodworking machine dust collector as opposed to a vacuum cleaner-shop type or otherwise.Shop Smith makes a dust collector machine that would be good to use with one machine-IE the CNC router.Other dust collector companies sell similar machines.
