I am looking to identify the VERY old upright machine. The belt cover looks familiar with its bell shape but I can not find any identifying marks, of any kind, on the machine. This and two others were a gift from a farmer in South Carolina today. We met on Craigslist and had been trying to get together for about a year. He also gave me two other Hoovers. ONe is a 33 Volt? that was used on his familys farm in Ohio. They had a Delco electric plant for the farm and this one is what his mother used until they were updated by the REA at some point. It is of basically a throw away, but thought MAYBE someone collected or wanted a parts machine of this type. The other is a 700 with a mint brushroll!
Thanks again!

I think is a...

BeeVac, made by Birtman Electric. But not 100% on that. That 2nd 700 is a really good find! Beacuse it has the orginal cord and Hoover plug intact. If somone would be able to find a orginal bag (which can be done, just takes time), then one would have a all orginal 1926 Model 700.

In the Hoover brochures it states that low voltage vacuum motors were available for use with private lighting plants (as in the ones that farms used in the 1910's thru the 1930's before the REA). I know that my grandparents didn't get 110 V electricity on their farm until 1939.

One is a 33 Volt?

If that's the case then it has a DC motor in it. Many years ago, farms generated their own power through windmills and stored it in batteries. I'd love to see the 32 volt Hoover they are a rarity nowadays.

Mystery upright

Thanks guys! The REALLY old upright is normal 110 volt. Its the pitiful hoover that the guys mom used on the farm with the 33volts (i think thats right). Is there anyone out there in our group that collects that type of motor or needs one for parts?
Im curious as how to clean the Hoover bag on the 700. maybe soak it in woolite?

Neat, you found a 32vdc vacuum. What's the matter with the Hoover's bag? Why do you need to clean it? I don't think you should wash it in anything, will probably damage it. I'd just vacuum all the dust out of it with another machine lol

I believe that Jason got it....

Here is a very early AD, for the BeeVac, when Birtman still had their factory downtown Chicago at Desplains and Lake St. The factory is still there. The pic isn't the greatest, but that front access plate looks to be about spot on. The machine above, may very well be an earlier model. I'd wager, probably the first one. I agree that some gentle cleaning of that front plate may give you a bit of info. Not sure.

Here's the advertisement...

however...

it is strange that the vacuum in the picture has the wheels on the fan housing and the one on the ad looks like wheels must be on the nozzle because no wheels on the fan housing in the ad. other than that it looks identical

looking very closely at the ad it looks like the name plate on the front looks round instead of the funky "bell" shape
